Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 84-75 to UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles drop to 6-13 overall and 0-8 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers improve to 5-14 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
The Eagles started strong in the first quarter, and built an 8-2 lead capped by a
Jenna Anderson three-point play with 8:37 left. UW-Platteville tied it up at 10-10 with 5:48 remaining, but UWL led 22-17 after an
Elise DeNoyer layup closed out the period.
In the second quarter, UW-Platteville used a 10-0 run to lead 27-22 with 7:51 left after a three pointer from Morgan Horstman. The Pioneer lead grew to as may as nine with 3:05 left, but UWL ended the half on a 7-0 run to cut it to 39-37 going into the break.
A pair of DeNoyer free throws tied the game at 41-41 with 8:04 remaining in the third quarter, but a 7-0 run put UW-Platteville back in front 48-41 at the 4:37 mark. A
Maggi Bishop free throw with :04 left cut it to 57-53 after three.
UW-Platteville led by ten points with 6:28 left in the game, but an 8-0 run by UWL capped by a DeNoyer layup with 4:25 remaining cut it to 69-67. The Eagles would get no closer in the final four minutes, and the Pioneers secured the nine-point victory.
UWL shot 31.9% (23-of-72) from the floor, were 18.8% (three-of-16) from three point range, and 83.9% (26-of-31) from the free throw line. DeNoyer recorded career-highs in points (25), rebounds (13), and steals (5), also adding three assists on the night. She was nine-of-16 from the floor and seven-of-eight from the free throw line.
MaKenzie Miller added 13 points while Anderson scored ten and added three assists.
UW-Platteville shot 44.8% from the floor, including 35.7% (five-of-14) from three-point range and 57.6% (19-of-33) at the line. Elisa Bilderback scored 20 points for UW-Platteville, while Horstman added 16 and Morgan Hartman had 13. Allison Prestegaard added ten boards.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, February 3 at UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
