Box Score Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 79-47 at eighth-ranked UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon in Kachel Gymnasium. The Eagles drop to 6-9 overall and 0-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks improve to 13-2 overall and 2-2 in the WIAC. The Warhawks scored the first four points of the game Saturday before baskets from
Maggi Bishop and
Rachel Atchison tied the game for the Eagles. UW-Whitewater scored the next five points to lead 9-4 with 7:23 left in the first quarter before
Jenna Anderson's two free throws for UWL cut the lead to 9-6. The Warhawks used a 8-0 run to lead 17-6 and led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter.
UWL went on a 11-4 run to cut the lead to 21-17 with 7:26 remaining in the second quarter on
Kimmy Johnson's layup. UW-Whitewater went on a 9-2 run to lead 30-19 with 2:10 left in the first half and led 33-24 at halftime.
In the third quarter, UW-Whitewater started on a 12-0 run before a pair of
MaKenzie Miller free throws gave UWL its first points of the period, making the score 45-26 with 5:26 remaining. Another 8-0 run from the Warhaks made it 52-26 at the 3:26 mark, but the Eagles finished the quarter on a 7-2 run, cutting it to 54-33 after three.
UW-Whitewater was able to extend its lead to as many as 33 points in the fouth quarter, and cruised to the 79-47 win.
UWL shot 27.9% from the field, including 25.0% (two-of-eight) from three point range, and 87.5% (21-of-24) from the free throw line.
Atchison led the Eagles with ten points while
Elise DeNoyer added five rebounds. Anderson added three steals and a pair of assists.
UW-Whitewater was 44.4% from the field, including 34.8% (eight-of-23) from three point range, and 75.0% (15-of-20) from the free throw line.
Jaya Perkins led three Warhawks in double-figures with 15 points. Reilly Stewart added 14 points and four assists and Brooke Trewyn had seven rebounds. UW-Whitewater scored 43 points off of 29 UWL turnovers.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, January 20 hosting UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
