Box Score Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team fell 4-1 to UW-Oshkosh Friday afternoon in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship at UW-Eau Claire's Gelein Field. The Eagles drop to 26-13 on the season while the Titans improve to 29-10. UW-L will face UW-River Falls Saturday, May 2 at 10 a.m. The Falcons opened the championship with a 1-0 victory over top-seeded UW-Eau Claire.
UW-Oshkosh, the championship's third-seed, took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first Haley Bayreuther singled to start the inning and advanced to second on a UW-L error. She moved to third on Erika Berry's sacrifice bunt and scored on Hayden Krueger's single. The Titans added to their lead in the bottom of the third with an unearned run. Caitlin Hoerning reached on an error to star the inning and advanced to second on Bayreuther's groundout. Berry followed with a single to knock in Hoerning for a 2-0 lead.
UW-L, the fourth-seed, cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth.
Emily Holldorf singled to start the inning and advanced to second on a
Megan Nelson groundout. After a pop-out,
Alecia Faber's two-out single scored Holldorf to cut the lead in half.
UW-Oshkosh extended its lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning. Krueger walked to start the inning and scored on Katie Koepsel's two-run home run.
Jessie Carignan (10-4) suffered the loss for UW-L, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing four hits, three runs (two earned) and one walk while striking out one. Nelson went 1.0 inning, allowing one hit and one run with one strikeout.
Holldorf finished 2-for-3 with a run scored while Faber went 1-of-r3 with an RBI.
Sara Brulieb earned the win for UW-Oshkosh, going 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, one run and one walk while striking out five. Five different players had a hit for the Titans.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, May 2 versus UW-River Falls starting at 10 a.m. in the WIAC Championship.
