Box Score 2 Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team dropped a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader at UW-Whitewater Thursday afternoon at van Steenderen Field. The Warhawks, tied for 13th on this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 Poll, won the opener, 3-2, Thursday afternoon and the nightcap, 5-2. UW-L, ranked 23rd in the NFCA Top-25 Poll, falls to 24-10 overall and 9-3 in the WIAC while UW-Whitewater improves to 28-6 overall and 11-3 in the conference.
In the opener, UW-Whitewater took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Deven DuCharme doubled with one out and scored on Jo Jablonski's two-run home run. UW-L tied the contest with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.
Alecia Faber singled with one out and was replaced by pinch-runner
Brooke Baldwin, who then stole second.
Greta Gumness followed with a two-run home run to left field to tie the game at 2-2.
The Warhawks regained the lead in the bottom half of the fourth on Paige Evangelista's solo home run with one out to make it 3-2. The Eagles left two runners on base in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh.
Megan Nelson (7-5) suffered the loss for UW-L, pitching a complete-game. She went 6.0 innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out five.

Emily Holldorf and Faber each finished with two hits for the Eagles as the team left nine runners on base.
Bekka Houda (13-3) picked up the victory for UW-Whitewater, going 7.0 innings, allowing nine hits, two runs and two walks with three strikeouts. Evangelista recorded two hits for the Warhawks.
UW-L took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in the nightcap.
Brittany Baldwin opened the game with a solo home run for a 1-0 lead. Holldorf then walked, stole second, and scored on Nelson's single up the middle for a 2-0 Eagles' advantage.
UW-Whitewater cut the margin to 2-1 in the botom of the first with an unearned run as Mallory Klotz scored on a UW-L throwing error, the Eagles' second error of the inning. The Warhawks took a 3-2 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as Caitlin Snyder singled with one out and scored on Klotz' two-out two-run home run.
UW-Whitewater made it 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth on DuCharme's single to knock in Evangelista with a second unearned run of the contest. Evangelista added a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to finish the scoring.
Jessie Carignan (8-3) took the loss for UW-L, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing three hits, four runs (two earned) and one walk while striking out one.
Katie Klein pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two hits, one run and two walks with one strikeout.
Nelson went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
Kelynn Sporer (10-3) earned the win for UW-Whitewater, pitching a complete-game. She went 7.0 innings, allowing four hits, two runs and two walks while striking out five. DuCharme finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Warhawks while Klotz recorded two runs and two RBI. Evangelista scored twice and had an RBI.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, April 25 hosting UW-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader at North Campus Field.
