Box Score 2 Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team split a pair of games at the Tucson Invitational Games Friday. The Eagles fell 6-4 to Pacific Lutheran University (Wash.) before coming back to earn a 3-1 win over the University of Dubuque (Iowa). UW-L is now 12-6 on the season.
Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in its win over UW-L on Crysti Snyder's RBI double. The Lutes took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI double from Jessica Wallace.
The Eagles tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
Brooke Baldwin scored on a Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) error to cut the lead to 2-1 and
Kendra Brown's single knocked in
Alecia Faber tied the game.
Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) regained the lead with three runs in the fifth inning on a Thalen Masada RBI double and Emily McConnell two-run double. UW-L cut the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth as
Megan Nelson scored on a wild pitch. Snyder's RBI single in the top of the sixth gave Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) a 6-3 advantage before UW-L finished the scoring in the bottom of the sixth as
Katrina O'Keefe scored on an error. The Eagles left 12 runners on base in the game, including the bases-loaded in the fifth and sixth innings. UW-L had the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh.
Heather Grelle suffered the loss for the Eagles, going 0.1 of an inning. She allowed three hits and three runs (two earned).
Katie Klein started for UW-L, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing four hits, two runs and two walks with two strikeouts.
Emily Holldorf, Nelson and
Emilie Wiltzius each had two hits for UW-L.
Jessie Carignan earned the win in the Eagles' 3-1 victory over Dubuque (Iowa) Friday. She pitched 5.0 innings, allowing six hits and one run with three strikeouts.
Katie Klein picked up the save, going 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three.
UW-L took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on Faber's single to knock in Wiltzius.
Kerrigan Koch stole home in the third inning to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.
Dubuque (Iowa) cut the margin to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth as Courtney Markin scored on Dia Borden's single. UW-L added a run in the top of the seventh when Holldorf scored on Nelson's RBI double.
Nelson went 2-for-4 at the plate for UW-L with an RBI.
The Eagles earned their third win over the Spartans this season with Friday's victory. UW-L defeated Dubuque (Iowa) in Rochester, Minnesota, winning 7-2 on March 6 and 4-2 on March 7.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, March 21 wrapping up its spring trip. The Eagles face Lewis & Clark College (Ore.) at 11 a.m. (Central) and Dubuque (Iowa) at 1 p.m.
