Box Score 2 Winter Haven, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team split a doubleheader with Ramapo College (N.J.) Friday afternoon. The Roadrunners won the opener, 2-0, before the Eagles came back to take the nightcap, 8-4. Both games were seven innings. UW-L is now 5-2 on the season.
In the opener, Ramapo (N.J.) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Brandon Berger scored on a UW-L fielding error. The Roadrunners added to their lead in the top of the fifth as Bobby Shannon was hit-by-pitch with the bases-loaded to score Robert DeAngelis.
Tom Portesy earned the win for Ramapo (N.J.), pitching the complete-game shutout. He went 7.0 innings, allowing three hits and two walks while eight strikeouts.
Shane Adler suffered the loss, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing nine hits, two runs (one earned) and three walks with one strikeout.

Justin Anderson and
Nic Barnes each had a hit for UW-L.
In the nightcap,
Ben Cejka earned the win for UW-L. He went 6.0 innings, allowing six hits, four runs and two walks with eight strikeouts.
UW-L took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Adler scored on
Travis Buxton-Verstegen's sacrifice fly and Kohlwey came in on
Alex Cordova's RBI single. Ramapo (N.J.) tied the game in the bottom of the frame on Chris Werr's two-run single. Each team scored twice in the second inning. Adler's single scored
Carter Hoffman for a 3-2 lead for the Eagles while
Justin Anderson's sacrifice fly knocked in
Joel Zyhowski. Ramapo (N.J.) came back in the bottom of the inning with Joe Venturino's two-run double to tie the game.
The Eagles scored three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-4 lead. All three runs came with two outs. Kohlwey's single gave UW-L a 5-4 lead driving in Zyhowski who had walked and stole second. Anderson followed with a two-run home run. The Eagles added a run in the top of the sixth with Adler coming in on Buxton-Verstegen's sacrifice fly.
Four players had two hits for UW-L in Friday's second game. Adler finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI while Kohlwey went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Anderson finished 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run while Cordova finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Zyhowski had two runs and Buxton-Verstegen two RBI.
Kohlwey extended his hitting streak to 36 games with hits in both games Friday. He is one game away from tying the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) record of 37 games set by UW-Stout's Brad O'Connell from April 28, 2000 to May 5, 2001.
UW-L wrap up its spring trip Saturday, March 21 versus The College of New Jersey starting at 11:30 a.m. (Central).
