UW-La Crosse 48, UW-Oshkosh 3Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team, ranked fifth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Poll, earned a 48-3 victory at UW-Oshkosh Friday night in Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles improve to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans drop to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
UW-L earned its 24th straight dual win over UW-Oshkosh with Friday night's victory. The Eagles had five wins by fall and three by technical fall Friday.
Nelson Baker opened the dual with a win by fall (3:28) over Rashaam Hill at 125-pounds to give UW-L a 6-0 advantage. The Eagles made it 11-0 as
Dustin Weinmann won by technical fall (16-0) over Jonathan Flores at 133-pounds and
Austin Schoen gave UW-L a 14-0 lead as he won by decision (7-4) over UW-Oshkosh's Craig Mason. Weinmann is ranked 10th in the NWCA.
The Titans got on the board at 149-pounds with Lance Arendt winning by decision (4-1) over the Eagles'
Chase Stiener. UW-L then took the last six matches with four coming by fall.
Derek Weinmann won by fall (1:37) over Hunter Mulock at 157-pounds to give the Eagles a 20-3 lead.
Travis Hettinga followed with a win by technical fall (16-0) over Parker Knueppel at 165-pounds to make it 25-3.
Jarrett Hoeppner and
Richard Carlson earnd back-to-back wins by fall to give UW-L a 37-3 lead. Hoeppner defeated Michael Berg by fall at 174-pounds (4:54) while Carlson, ranked fifth in the NWCA, defeated Korey Kleinhans at 184-pounds (2:32).
The Eagles'
Eric Twohey, also ranked fifth in the country, followed with a win by technical fall (16-1) at 197-pounds and
Zach Tooley finished the dual with a win by fall (5:53) over Matt Veneskey at 285-pounds.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 17 at two locations. The Eagles face the University of Dubuque (Iowa) at 1 p.m. and Wheaton College (Ill.) at 2:45 p.m. in the Wheaton (Ill.) Duals. UW-L will also compete at the Cornell College (Iowa) Matman Invitational at 9 a.m.
