Carignan Earns Shutout Victory over UW-Stout in WIAC Tournament

Box Score Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team remained alive in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament with a 3-0 victory at UW-Stout Sunday morning at Alumni Field.  The Eagles improve to 24-12 on the season while the Blue Devils drop to 27-12.  UW-L advances to the tournament championship round and will face UW-Whitewater at noon Sunday.  The Eagles will need to defeat the Warhawks twice to earn the league title and automatic berth to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships.

Jessie Carignan (9-2) earned the complete-game shutout victory over UW-Stout Sunday.  She pitched 7.0 innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out five.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of third inning. Kallie Krech opened the inning with a bunt single and advanced to third on Emily Holldorf's sacrifice bunt and a UW-Stout error.  Katie Fink singled to load the bases.  Alecia Faber followed with a sacrifice fly to knock in Krech while Holldorf also scored on the play after the Blue Devils second error of the inning.

UW-L added to its lead in the top of the seventh.   Krech started the frame with another bunt single and stole second.  After a pair of outs were recorded, Faber's infield single advanced Krech to third.  Megan Nelson followed with an RBI single to score Krech.

Krech went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Faber finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Caty Schloer (5-4) suffered the loss for UW-Stout, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) with one strikeout.  Courtney Smith went 3-for-3 as the Blue Devils left eight runners on base.

UW-L returns to action Sunday starting at noon versus UW-Whitewater.
