Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 61-42 to UW-Superior Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles drop to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Yellowjackets improve to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference. UW-Superior earned its third win in the last four meetings with UW-L.
UW-Superior took a 11-8 lead with 13:01 left in the first half on a Jayme Malnory jumper, but UW-L went on a 6-0 run to lead 14-11. The game was tied 15-15 with 6:21 remaining after the Eagles'
MaKenzie Miller hit one-of-two free throws. UW-L scored six of the next seven points to take its largest lead of the game at 21-16 with 3:24 left.
UW-Superior came right back to go on a 6-1 run to tie the contest at 22-22 with :37 remaining.
Mallory Cramer gave UW-L a 24-22 halftime lead on a layup with :17 left.
The Yellowjackets led 31-29 with 16:19 left in the first half when they went on a 15-2 run to take a 46-31 advantage with 8:54 remaining. UW-Superior made its first six shots from the field in the second half. UW-L cut the lead to 48-37 with 6:23 left on a
Marina Kneeland jumper, but the Eagles could get no closer the rest of the game.
UW-L shot 26.4% from the field, including 21.4% (three-of-14) from three-point range, and 55.0% (11-of-20) at the free throw line.
Cramer led the Eagles with 14 points while Kneeland finished with nine.
Erin Levenhagen had a team-high seven rebounds.
UW-Superior shot 37.5% from the field, including 20.0% (two-of-10) from three-point range, and 79.3% (23-of-29) at the line.
Sally Linzmeier led the Yellowjackets with 22 points and 12 rebounds. She scored 18 points in the second half. Linzmeier also tied for the team lead with four steals and three assists. Vanessa Lebens added 12 points while Britnee Blake finished with 11.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, January 15 hosting UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
