Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Clark Racquet Center at Coe College (Iowa). The Eagles fell 7-2 to the host Kohawks before coming back to earn a 7-2 win over Monmouth College (Ill.). UW-L is now 3-2 on the season.
Versus Coe, ranked 11th in the region, UW-L's
Kevin McMillen and
Anthony Mirasola earned victories. McMillen defeated Yasushi Inoue at No. 1 singles (6-0, 7-6) while Mirasola beat Sean Stokstad at No. 4 (6-3, 4-6, 12-10).
The Kohawks took the other four singles matches. Riley Galbraith defeated
Vic Mirasola at No. 2 (6-2, 7-5); Curtis Newman defeated
Kyle McGrane at No. 3 (6-3, 6-2); Ryan Hickman beat
Travis Murphy at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0) and Jeff Damisch defeated
Nick Skanavis at No. 6 (6-1, 6-4).
Coe swept the three doubles matches. Newman/Noah Sprinkel defeated McMillen/
Dante Pitera at No. 1 (8-2); Galbraith/Inoue beat Mirasola/Mirasola at No. 2 (8-1) and Michael Janssen/Stokstad defeated
Stefan DeLong/McGrane at No. 3 (8-5).
UW-L swept all six singles matches in its victory over Monmouth. McMillen defeated Chris Franco at No. 1 (6-1, 6-3);
Vic Mirasola defeated Dave Johnson at No. 2 (1-6, 6-3, 10-6) and McGrane defeated David Stewart at No. 3 (7-5, 6-4).
Anthony Mirasola beat Marco Franco at No. 4 singles (6-3, 6-2); Skanavis defeated Alex King at No. 5 (6-1, 6-2) and Pitera beat Andrew Shiakallis at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2).
Monmouth won two of the three doubles matches. Stewart/Johnson defeated McMillen/Pitera at No. 1 (8-4) and Franco/Franco beat Mirasola/Mirasola at No. 2 (8-2).

UW-L returns to action Friday, February 15 versus St. Olaf College (Minn.) in Rochester, Minnesota at 7 p.m.
