Box Score UW-La Crosse 60, UW-Superior 55
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team wrapped up its 2012-13 season with a 60-55 victory over UW-Superior Saturday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles finish the season at 11-14 overall and 5-11 in the WIAC while the Yellowjackets, who will play in the WIAC Tournament next week, drop to 18-7 overall and 10-6 in the conference.
UW-L never trailed in the first half. The Eagles led 6-4 when they scored seven straight points to lead 13-4 with 15:47 remaining. UW-L led 20-8 with 10:54 left after a
Trisha Van Dusseldorp jumper, but UW-Superior went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 20-17 with 4:34 remaining.
The Eagles quickly responded, finishing the half on a 14-4 run to lead 34-21. Van Dusseldorp,
Alyssa Clemment and
Maggi Bishop each hit a three-pointer in the run. Bishop's three-point field goal came at the halftime buzzer.
UW-L led by as many as 15 points early in the second half, including 41-26 with 16:54 remaining on a
Erin Levenhagen layup. The Eagles later led 48-35 with 9:11 left, but the Yellowjackets went on a 16-2 run to take their first lead of the game at 51-50 with 3:45 remaining.
Levenhagen gave UW-L a 53-51 lead with a three-point field goal with 3:12 left, but Connie Urmanski tied the contest with 2:06 left on a layup. Bishop made it 55-53 with 1:53 remaining on a layup. Sally Linzmeier tied the game at 55-55 with a pair of free throws with 1:05 left.
Senior
Briana Radowicz, playing in the final game of her career, gave UW-L a 58-55 advantage after hitting a three-point field goal with :37 left. Urmanski missed a three-pointer with :09 left for UW-Superior. Clemment later made a pair of free throws with :04 remaining for the final margin.
Van Dusseldorp, also a senior playing in her final career game, tied her career-high with 21 points for UW-L. She finished seven-of-17 from the field, including five-of-10 from three-point range, and two-of-two at the line.
Bishop and Levenhagen each had 11 points while Radowicz finished with 10. Bishop recorded a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds. Levenhagen totaled six rebounds and three blocks while Radowicz had three steals.
UW-L shot 38.9% from the field, including 44.0% (11-of-25) from three-point range. UW-L's 11 three-point field goals is tied for second in single-game school history. The team also made 11 versus UW-Eau Claire (January 23, 2010). The school record of 12 three-point field goals was set against Luther College, Iowa (November 16, 2010).
The Eagles shot 70.0% (seven-of-10) at the free throw line Saturday.
Linzmeier led UW-Superior with 19 points and seven rebounds while Urmanski finished with 15 points.
UW-Superior shot 37.5% from the field, including 28.6% (four-of-14) from three-point range. The Yellowjackets shot 90.0% (nine-of-10) at the line. UW-Superior is the fourth seed for the WIAC Tournament and will host fifth-seeded UW-River Falls Wednesday, February 20 in the first round.
