Box Score Maitland, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 70-56 victory over Mount Aloysius College (Pa.) Friday night in the RDV Sportsplex D3 Basketball Classic. The Eagles improve to 6-4 on the season while the Lady Mounties fall to 3-4. It was the first-ever meeting between the teams.
UW-L never trailed in Friday's game, scoring the first nine points of the contest. The Eagles made four of their first five shots from the field. Mount Aloysius later cut the lead to 17-15 with 10:30 left in the first half on a Kaleigh Roop jumper, but UW-L went on a 10-0 run to lead 27-15.
The Lady Mounties used a 11-3 run to cut the lead to 30-26 with 2:37 remaining. The Eagles'
Maggi Bishop hit a jumper and
Marina Kneeland a three-pointer to give UW-L a 35-25 advantage. UW-L led 39-29 at halftime.
Mount Aloysius opened the second half on a 11-2 run to trail 41-40 with 16:22 left. UW-L led 45-42 when
Mallory Cramer was fouled with 13:16 remaining. Mount Aloysius was called for a technical foul and Cramer hit four straight free throws to give the Eagles a 49-42 lead. The Lady Mounties followed with four consecutive free throws to cut the lead to 49-45, but Mount Aloysius could get no closer the rest of the game.
UW-L went on a 10-4 run to lead 59-49 with 7:44 left. The Eagles led 63-56 with 1:59 remaining when they finished the game scoring the final seven points.
UW-L shot 45.3% from the field, including 35.7% (five-of-14) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 60.7% (17-of-28) at the free throw line.
Cramer led UW-L with 16 points while
Jenna Anderson finished with 10. Cramer and
Katie Ehlen each had a game-high eight rebounds with Ehlen also scoring seven points. Kneeland finished with nine points while
Erin Levenhagen had eight points and six rebounds.
Mount Aloysius shot 37.5% from the field, including 30.8% (four-of-13) from three-point range. The Lady Mounties shot 64.0% (16-of-25) at the line.
Lindsey Sammarco led Mount Aloysius with 20 points while Becky Bard finished with 16. Lauren Gross had a team-high seven rebounds.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, December 21 versus fifth-ranked Hope College (Mich.) starting at 3 p.m. (Central Time) in the RDV Sportsplex D3 Basketball Classic Championship Game.
