Box Score Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 70-54 victory over Marian University (Wis.) Saturday afternoon at the UW-Platteville Pioneer Classic on Bo Ryan Court. The Eagles improve to 3-1 on the season while the Sabres drop to 0-3.
UW-L never trailed in Saturday's game, scoring the first nine points.
Mallory Cramer had six of the Eagles' nine points to start the game. Marian later cut the lead to seven points three different times, including 15-8 with 11:38 remaining in the first half. The Sabres would get no closer the rest of the game.
The Eagles led 21-13 with 10:06 left in the half when they went on a 8-1 run to lead 29-14. UW-L led 35-24 at halftime.
UW-L opened the second half on a 13-3 run to lead 48-27 with 16:37 remaining. The Eagles led by as many as 29 points in the second half.
UW-L shot 55.1% from the field, including 66.7% (16-of-24) in the first half. The Eagles shot 33.3% (two-of-six) from three-point range in the game and 70.0% (14-of-20) at the free throw line.
Cramer led the Eagles with a career-high 25 points, finishing eight-of-13 from the field and nine-of-nine at the free throw line. She also finished with a game-high 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the year.
MaKenzie Miller finished with 11 points for the Eagles while
Maggi Bishop had eight.
Katie Ehlen recorded seven assists while
Marina Kneeland had four assists and three steals.
Cramer and Miller were both selected to the UW-Platteville Pioneer All-Classic Team.
Marian shot 35.0% from the field, including 42.9% (nine-of-21) from three-point range. The Sabres shot 68.0% (17-of-25) at the line.
Sarah Olewinski led Marian with 12 points while Nicole Paulus finished with 10.
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, November 26 at Concordia University Wisconsin at 7 p.m.
