Flash Flanagan Open Results
Dubuque, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team competed at the Flash Flanagan Open Saturday in Dubuque hosted by Loras College (Iowa). No team scores were recorded, but the Eagles had a pair of individual champions.
Grant Miller took the 184-pound division while
Zach Strickland won the 197-pound title.
Miller went 3-0 at 184-pounds to win the championship, defeating teammate
Tony Piechowski by decision (8-4) in the title match. Miller defeated Josh Haug, wrestling unattached, by decision (3-1) in his first match and advanced to the title match with a win by decision (5-2) over Ryan Sheldon of Coe College (Iowa).
Piechowski finished 2-1 at 184-pounds. He defeated Christian Alcantara of Triton College (Ill.) by fall (6:11) and Jake Landais, unattached, by decision (7-0) before losing to Miller in the title match.
Strickland won the 197-pound crown with a 4-0 record. He opened with a decision win (4-0) over Garret Goldman, unattached, before a major decision victory (13-1) over Sebastien Levin, also wrestling unattached. Strickland defeated a pair of wrestlers from the University of Northern Iowa to win the division. He defeated Joe Johnson by decision (4-0) in the semifinals and Taylor Kettman by decision (5-2) in the championship match.
The Eagles'
Scott Hogan finished fourth at 157-pounds with a 4-2 mark, including two wins by fall.
Bobby Dorn placed sixth at 149-pounds Saturday with a 3-1 record.
