Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's tennis squad split a pair of duals Saturday at Coe College in the Clark Racquet Center. The Eagles fell 7-2 to Coe College (Iowa) and earned a 6-3 victory over Cornell College (Iowa). UW-L, ranked 16th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region, is now 3-3 on the season.
Nick Piotrowski earned a pair of wins at No. 1 singles for the Eagles. He defeated Victor Khristenko of Coe College by the scores of 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 and Justin Bradfield of Cornell College by the scores of 6-1, 6-1.
Nathan Fekete,
Steven Quiring and
Vic Mirasola each earned wins in singles play versus Cornell. Fekete defeated Garrett Russikoff at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-1); Quiring beat Neal Klauer at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2) and Mirasola defeated Joseph Gelfand at No. 5 (6-3, 6-1).
In doubles competition against Coe, Fekete/Quiring beat Khristenko/Jeff Damisch at No. 2 (8-4).
UW-L won two of three doubles matches versus Cornell with Piotrowski/
Peter Stadum defeating Bradfield/Tyler Shonkwiler at No. 1 (8-2) and Fekete/Quiring earning the win over Russikoff/Samuel O'Donnell at No. 2 (8-1).
UW-L returns to action Saturday, February 19 with a pair of duals in Decorah, Iowa. The Eagles play Simpson College (Iowa) at 1 p.m. and host Luther College (Iowa) at 3:30 p.m.
