La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team earned an 18-3 victory over UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
The Eagles improve to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers drop to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Tori Katzenmeyer had four goals in Wednesday's win.
UWL scored the first five goals of the game.
Anna Millard got the scoring started at 13:57 on
Megan Maloney's assist. Maloney's goal with 12:43 left in the first quarter made it 2-0, followed by goals from
Ava Schiltz and
Tori Katzenmeyer for a 4-0 lead. Maloney's second goal of the game extended the lead to 5-0.
UW-Stevens Point scored its first goal with 5:07 remaining in the first quarter with Josie Voigt scoring a man-up goal. The Eagles responded with the four next goals to take a 9-1 lead. Katzenmeyer scored twice while Maloney and Schiltz also notched goals for UWL.
After Addison Novak scored for the Pointers to cut the lead to 9-2, Schiltz,
Emily Wrobbel and Millard scored to give the Eagles an 12-2 halftime advantage.
Goals from Katzenmeyer and Maloney in the third quarter provided UWL a 14-2 lead.
Voigt scored her second goal for UW-Stevens Point with 13:13 left in the fourth quarter to make it 14-3.
Ella Yates,
Paige Myers and Maddie Sawowski scored for UWL in the quarter with
Jadyn Constine recording two assists.
UWL finished with 40 shots, including 25 on goal. Maloney and Katzenmeyer each scored four goals with Maloney adding two assists. Schiltz had three goals and one assist while Millard and Sadowski each scored twice. Constine and
Adison Brown tied Maloney for the team lead with two assists.
Ava Schiltz recorded three goals and one assist.
Maloney had 10 shots in the game while Wrobbel finished with a team-high nine ground balls.
Angie Olla recorded 10 draw controls.
Stefania Rossi earned the win, finishing with two saves in 45:00.
Lucretia Morgan had one save in 15:00.
UW-Stevens Point totaled nine shots with five on goal. Voigt scored twice for the Pointers. Voigt, Novack and Barrie Bahr each had two shots in the game. Jocee Tanner and Emily Griege finished with three ground balls while Bahr had three draw controls.
Griege suffered the loss, registering nine saves.
UWL returns to action Friday, April 10 at 21st-ranked the University of Chicago (Ill.) at 7 p.m.
