UWL Earns Win at MSOE; Maloney and Schiltz Each Score Five Goals; Schiltz Becomes School's All-Time Leader in Goals

Milwaukee, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 17-5 win at MSOE (Wis.) Wednesday night at Viets Field.

The Raiders drop to 0-3 on the season.

The Eagles scored the first four goals of the game Wednesday. Megan Maloney scored at 14:15 to make it 1-0. After Anna Millard gave UWL a 2-0 advantage with 13:48 remaining in the first quarter, Maloney extended the lead to 3-0 at 12:34 off a Tori Katzenmeyer assist. Ava Schiltz made it 4-0 with 10:58 remaining. It was a record setting goal for Schiltz as she became UWL's career leader in goals with 181. She tied Megan Feeney's record in the Eagles' 9-8 victory at Carthage College (Wis.) on February 28.

MSOE (Wis.) got on the board with 8:53 left in the opening quarter as Maggie Sanderson scored off Vayda Flower's assist. Schiltz' second goal of the game gave UWL a 5-1 lead. After the Raiders cut the lead to 5-2, Evie Brilz tallied a man-up goal to make it 6-2. Schiltz' third goal of the first quarter with 2:53 remaining gave UWL a 7-2 advantage.
Ava Schiltz became UWL's career leader in goals (181).


Maloney (11:14 left) and Emily Wrobbel (10:52) scored unassisted goals for the Eagles to make it 9-2. Chloe Ninmann's goal for MSOE (Wis.) made it 9-3, but Schiltz and Adison Brown scored to give UWL a 11-2 halftime lead. Wrobbel recorded an assist on the goal by Schiltz.

The Eagles scored the only three goals of the third quarter with Jordyn Larue, Brilz and Maloney notching goals. Maloney and Jadyn Constine each had an assist.

MSOE (Wis.) scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter, coming from Ashlyn Bode and Arial Laps, to cut the deficit to 14-5 before Schiltz, Brown and Maloney scored for UWL to make the final, 17-5.

UWL finished with 34 shots with 20 on goal. Maloney and Schiltz each had five goals for the Eagles with Brilz and Brown each scoring twice. Five different players recorded an assist.

Maloney had a team-high five draw controls as five different players had two ground balls.

Stefani Rossi earned the win, playing the first half and recording five saves. Lucretia Morgan played the second half in goal, finishing with four saves.

MSOE (Wis.) totaled 22 shots, including 13 on goal. Lapsa the Raiders with two goals.

Ninmann and Molly Benjamins each had three ground balls.

Benjamins suffered the loss, registering six saves.

UWL returns to action Saturday, March 7 hosting Illinois Wesleyan University in its home opener at 12 p.m.
