Eagles End Spring Break Trip With Offensive Explosion; Extend Win Streak to Six

Davenport, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team extended their win streak to six games as they defeated Lawrence University (Wis.) on Monday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team would get on the scoreboard until the third inning when UWL recorded five runs on four hits and an error. Luke Walton and Mark Manders led off the inning with back-to-back singles while Chris Calico walked to load the bases. Brady Lash would bring Walton in to score when he reached on a fielders choice while Brady Burrill scored Manders on a bunt single to make it 2-0. Sam Viniard then reached on an error to load the bases again before Evan Schmidt was hit by a pitch to score Lash. Andrew Palm then doubled to score both Burrill and Viniard to put UWL up 5-0. 
  • Lawrence would get two of those runs back in their half of the third inning Myles Brinck hit a triple to score both Nathan Depew and Gabe Villa. 
  • Calico would walk to start the fourth inning for the Eagles and steal second base. Lash then singled to put Calico on third before Burrill successfully executed a sacrifice bunt to make it 6-2 Eagles. After Viniard singled to put Lash at third, a wild pitch would allow Lash to score (7-2). 
  • With one out in the top of the sixth inning, Lash singled and went to third on Burrill's double. Viniard followed that with a single to left field to score both Lash and Burrill to extend UWL's lead to 9-2. Viniard would steal second base and score on Palms single to left as UWL led 10-2. 
  • Lash would make it 11-2 in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Walton who had walked earlier in the inning.
  • Brinck would drive in a run for the Vikings in the bottom half of the seventh inning while AJ Desantiag's RBI double made it 11-4. 
  • UWL would send 13 batters to the plate in the top of the ninth inning as the Eagles scored eight runs on seven hits to make it 20-4. Burrill would hit his second double of the game to score two runs while Walton's double also brought in two runs. Also driving in runs in the ninth for the Eagles was Matthew Sonnenschein, Gabe Bockhop, AJ Levy and Manders.

  • Offensively, UWL finished with 20 runs on 21 hits and five walks.
  • Five Eagles finished with multi-hit/multi-runs scored games including Lash (4-for-6, four runs scored, 2 RBIs), Burrill (3-for-5, 4 RBIs, 3 runs scored), Viniard (3-for-5, 3 runs scored, 2 RBIs), Palm (3-for-5, 3 RBIs) and Walton (2-for-5 three runs scored, 2 RBIs). 
  • Calico reached base four times including three walks along with two runs scored and a stolen base. 
  • Owen Deprez (1-0) came on in relief to earn his first win of the season as he allowed two hits and a walk while striking out three in 3.0 innings of work. Chayce Osterhaus got the start for the Eagles as he went 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two. 
  • Lawrence finished with four runs on seven hits and six walks. 
  • Josh Moosey (0-1) suffered the loss as he allowed five runs on four hits and two walks in 2.1 innings.   
  • Myles Brincks led the Vikings as he finisehd 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
