UW-La Crosse To Celebrate Girls & Women in Sports Day; Free Tickets To Women's Basketball Game For Girls 18 and Under

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse  Athletic Department will celebrate National Girls & Womens in Sports Day (NGWSD) on Wednesday, February 4th during the Eagles women's basketball game against UW-Whitewater. 

According to the Women's Sports Foundation (WSF) website, "WSF was started in 1974 with a mission to enable all girls and women to reach their potential in sports and life. They provide financial fuel to aspiring champion athletes. They fund groundbreaking research, provide education, advocate and help communities get girls active."

In terms of UWL athletics celebration,  all girls age 18 and under will get free admission to the game between nationally ranked UW-Whitewater and UW-La Crosse. Tickets for the game are still required and can be obtained by visiting the UWL GoFan page.  

UW-Whitewater is ranked ninth while UWL is 23rd on this week's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III National Power Index (NPI). The two teams met back on January 14th in Whitewater. The Eagles knocked off UW-Whitewater, ranked seventh at the time, 77-54. The top 10 win for the Eagles was just the sixth time in school history they have defeated a top-10 ranked opponent. In the first match-up between the two teams, the score was tied 44-44 with 4:11 remaining in the third quarter. UWL would then outscore UW-Whitewater 33-10 over the final 14 minutes for the upset win. 

UWL athletics sponsors 11 women's intercollegiate sports including basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swim & dive, tennis, track and volleyball.
