UW-La Crosse in Sixth-Place in Learfield Directors' Cup Winter Standings; Eagles Lead WIAC Contingent

 The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is in sixth-place in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Learfield Directors' Cup winter standings.  The Eagles have 699.50 points while New York University leads with 812.25.

Williams College (Mass.) is second with 811.00 points, Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) third with 787.50, Johns Hopkins University (Md.) fourth with 784.00 and Tufts University (Mass.) fifth with 739.75. 

The University of Chicago is seventh (689.50), Amherst University (Mass.) eighth (590.50), Trinity University (Texas) ninth (527.50) and Emory University (Ga.) 10th (522.00).

The final winter standings will be updated after the NCAA III Men's Basketball Championship game on April 5 between Emory (Ga.) and the University of Mary Washington (Va.).

UW-La Crosse is the top Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) institution in the standings. UW-Eau Claire is in 22nd-place (399.00) with UW-Whitewater 30th (343.00), UW-Oshkosh 35th (315.50), UW-River Falls 38th (282.75), UW-Platteville 45th (237.25), UW-Stevens Point 67th (180.50) and UW-Stout 86th (146.00).  Logo

The winter standings include points awarded in the 12 sports of skiing, fencing, rifle, women's and men's indoor track & field, wrestling, women's and men's basketball, women's and men's swimming & diving and women's and men's hockey. 

UW-La Crosse recorded 421.00 points for the 2025-26 winter season. The Eagles earned 90.0 points each for the men's track & field and wrestling teams placing second at the NCAA Division III Championships; 80.0 points for the women's track & field team finishing fourth at the national meet; 73.0 points for the women's basketball team advancing to the Elite 8; 64.0 points for the men's basketball squad playing in the Sweet 16 and 24.0 points for the men's swimming & diving team finishing 41st at the national championships.

UW-La Crosse was in ninth-place after the fall, earning 100.00 points for the men's cross country team winning the NCAA Division III Championship, 64.50 points for women's cross country finishing 12th at the national meet, 64.00 points for the football squad playing in the third round of the national championships and 50.00 points for the soccer team advancing to the NCAA Division III Second Round.

UW-La Crosse finished 10th in the 2024-25 Learfield Directors' Cup, its best finish since tying for 10th in 2015-16.

UW-La Crosse is one of seven institutions to finish in the top-40 in all 28 years of the Learfield College Directors' Cup, joining Williams (Mass.), Amherst College (Mass.), Middlebury (Vt.), Emory (Ga.), Ithaca College (N.Y.), and Washington-St. Louis (Mo.). The award was not presented in 2019-20 or 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 public health threat. 

The Eagles have recorded 25 top-20 finishes in school history. UW-La Crosse has recorded 11 top-10 finishes overall, including a school-best seventh four times (2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07, 2009-10).

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's national finish in NCAA Championships.
