Brown Deer, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team captured its second straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Saturday night at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The Eagles won their conference-leading 23rd championship in program history with 994.0 points. UW-Eau Claire placed second with 894.5 points with UW-Oshkosh third with 467.0, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 411.0 and UW-Whitewater fifth with 368.5.
It is the fourth (2020, 2022, 2025, 2026) WIAC Championship under head coach
Steve Mohs.
Zoey Rank won the 200 breaststroke (2:24.19), becoming the first swimmer to take first since Maria Vaudreuil in 2020.
UWL had six of the top 11 finishers in the 200 breaststroke.
Emily Hauke finished second (2:26.63),
Makenzie Wallace fourth (2:26.86),
Lily Rosenau sixth (2:30.24), Aly Wallander ninth (2:31.19) and
Ella Stadler 11th (2:32.96).
Hannah Martini captured the three-meter diving title (444.00 points) on Saturday. The Eagles had six of the top eight finishers as
Abbey Thornton was second (391.05),
Emma Lieb third (388.70),
Eden Mortensen fifth (372.95),
Madison DeBernardo seventh (365.70) and
Natalie Peterson eighth (356.95). UWL's
Joanne Banaszak won the title in 2025. Martini was named the WIAC Diver of the Meet at the conclusion of the championships.
The Eagles captured the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.17) with
Ava Pulvermacher, Rank,
Greta Wiskus and
Libby Cleveland Saturday. It is UWL's first title since 2023.
Three of the top six finishers in the 100 freestyle were Eagles on Saturday, including Wiskus second (52.36), Cleveland fourth (53.22) and
Hannah Wadholm sixth (54.77).
Ellie Brown was 10th (54.34).
Pulvermacher was second (2:10.35),
Abby Gierke sixth (2:14.51) and
Shefali Ramakrishnan eighth (2:25.59) in the 200 butterfly.
The Eagles'
Ava Newman finished fourth (2:07.90) and
Paige Rundahl sixth (2:08.90) in the 200 backstroke.
In the 1,650 freestyle,
McKenna Biegler placed fifth (18:19.51) and Newman sixth (18:23.86).
UWL returns to action Friday, February 27 with the NCAA Division III Central Diving Regional in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
