Eagles Win WIAC Title; Claims 32nd in Last 33 Years; Captures Six Events on Second Day

Eagles with 59th WIAC Title in School History
Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championship (presented by Culver's) Saturday afternoon. It is the Eagles league record 59th conference title in program history and 32nd in 33 years.
 
THE BASICS
  • Team Results: UWL won with 250.5 points while UW-Eau Claire was second with 149 points. In third place was UW-Oshkosh with 122 points while UW-Whitewater finished fourth (121 points), UW-Platteville fifth (44 points), UW-Stout sixth (40 points), UW-River Falls seventh (28.5 points) and UW-Stevens Point eighth (22 points).

  • Up next: Prior to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Championship May 22-24, UWL will host two NCAA Qualifiers with the first one being Friday, May 9 and the final one on Thursday, May 15.

    TRACK EVENTS 
  • 4x100 Relay - The relay team of Ryder Smith, Sam Blaskowski, Evan Maurud, Lyndon Hemmrich-Hartman finished second in the 4x100 relay with a time of 39.7. 
  • 1500-meter Run - UWL had two runners place in the top four of the 1500-meter run with Jayden Zywicki finishing second (3:51.19) and Nash Merklein fourth (3:53.05). 
  • 110-meter Hurdles - With a time of 14.50, Lukas Johnson finished third in the 110-meter hurdles. 
  • 400-meter Run - Collin Conzemius defends his 2024 WIAC Championship in the 400-meter run with a winning time of 47.08. Finishing right behind him in second place was teammate Chase Doornink with a time of 47.15. Devin Williams (47.90)  and Jacob Hohmann (48.11) also placed for the Eagles finishing fifth and sixth respectively. 
  • 100-meter Dash - Breaking his own National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III record was Blaskowski with a time of 10.08 to win the 100-meter championship. Blaskowski wins his second consecutive title after winning it in 2024. Hemmerich-Hartman finished seventh with a time of 10.68 while Maurud was eighth (10.74). 
  • 800-meter Run - With a WIAC Championship meet record 1:49.67, Cael Schoemann wins the 800-meter run title. Owen Klaus also placed for the Eagles as he finished eighth with a time of 1:53.54.
  • 400-meter Hurdles - UWL had four runners finish in the top seven in the 400-meter hurdles led by Finn Patenaude who finished second with a time of 52.82. In fourth place was Dirk Lueck (53.33) while Zachary Nyquist was fifth (53.39) and Ayden Hart seventh (54.60). 
  • 200-meter Dash - Another record breaking performance for Blaskowski as he broke the WIAC Championship meet record to win the 200-meter dash. Blaskowski won the title with a time of 20.38 for his second WIAC Championship of the day. Maurud finished seventh with a time of 21.78 while Hemmerich-Hartman was seventh (21.80).
  • 5000-meter RunBen Stangel (14:41.99) and Christopher Wolfe (14:43.62) both placed in the 5000-meter run finishing sixth and seventh respectively. 
  • 4x400-meter Relay - The relay team of Ethan Dugan, Tyler BackesJacob Hohmann and Williams ran a WIAC Championship meet record of 3:12.03 to win the 4x400 relay.
