Eagles in First After Day 1 of WIAC Outdoor Championships; Tumminaro and Matthai Win Individual Titles

Results

Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Men's Track and Field team completed day one of the 2025 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships (presented by Culver's) which included the Eagles winning two individual championships.

THE BASICS

Team Results: UWL leads the team standings with 81.5 points while UW-Oshkosh (46 points) is second followed by UW-Eau Claire (40 points) third, UW-Whitewater (35 points) fourth, UW-Stout (13.5 points) fifth, UW-Plattevile (9 points) sixth, UW-River Falls (8 points) seventh and UW-Stevens Point eighth (1 point).

THE RESULTS

FIELD EVENTS

Javelin - Nate Lawrence finished second in the javelin with a throw of 176-6 while teammate Anthony Staryszak was seventh (158-8).
Pole Vault – The Eagles had five athletes score points in the pole vault led by Andrew Tumminaro who defended his 2024 WIAC title with a winning mark of 16-2 1/2. Also scoring for the Eagles was Alexander Wagner who finished third (15-8 1/2), Caleb Moore tied for fourth (15-2 3/4), Ethan Brissette seventh (15-2 3/4) and Gaven Lange tied for eighth (14-8 3/4).
Long Jump – Sebastian Jefferson, Carter Pearson and Triton Schmidt all placed for the Eagles in the long jump. Jefferson (23-9 1/2) finished third while Pearson (23-71/4) was sixth and Schmidt (23-6 1/4) seventh.
Hammer Throw - With a throw of 179-10, Matthew Jackson finished fourth in the hammer throw.

TRACK EVENTS

3,000-meter Steeplechase - The Eagles had five of the top eight finishers in the 3,000-meter steeplechase led by Adam Loenser who finished third with a time of 8:51.51. Finishing right behind Loenser was Jayden Zywicki with a time of 8:52.88. In sixth place was Joey Sullivan (8:57.57) while Charles Vater was seventh (8:59.04) and Mason Brown eighth (9:09.04).
110-meter Hurdles (Prelims) - Lukas Johnson qualified for Saturday's final with the second fastest time, 14.44, on the day.
400-meter Run (Prelims) - Chase Doornink (47.58), Collin Conzemius (47.59), Andrew Hackbarth (48.18) qualified 1, 2, 3 in the 400-meter run prelims while Jacob Hohmann (48.49) and Devin Williams (48.61) also qualified.
100-meter Dash (Prelims) - UWL had three runners qualify in the 100-meter dash including Sam Blaskowski (10.56), Evan Maurud (10.64) and Lyndon Hemmrich-Hartman (10.69).
800-meter Run (Prelims) - Cael Schoemann (1:54.19) and Owen Klaus (1:54.94) both qualified for the finals in the 800-meter run.
400-meter Hurdles (Prelims) - Dirk Lueck (52.88), Ayden Hart (53.34), Finn Patenaude (53.50) and Zachary Nyquist (53.98) all qualified for the 400-meter hurdle finals on Saturday.
200-meter Dash (Prelims) - Blaskowski (20.99) and Hemmrich-Hartman (21.29) qualified with the top two times in the 200-meter dash with Maurud (21.55) also qualifying.
10,000-meter Run - With a WIAC Outdoor Championship record time of 29:37.27, Aidan Matthai wins a conference championship in the 10,000-meter run. Finishing right behind him was teammate Grant Matthai in a time of 29:37.69. Also scoring for the Eagles was Ben Stangel who finished eighth with a time of 30:43.84.
Decathlon - Nolan Seaberg is in sixth place after day one of the decathlon. Seaberg has 3462 after competing in the 100-meter, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter.
