La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team extended its winning streak to six with a 14-13 victory over UW-River Falls Wednesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium in the inaugural Bird Bowl.

The Eagles improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons drop to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
UWL and UW-River Falls joined forces to raise funds to support pediatric cancer research, partnering with LaCROSSEe Out Cancer for the inaugural Bird Bowl. A trophy was presented to the Eagles at the conclusion of the game.
UWL started the scoring early in the first period, with
Ava Schiltz scoring a man-up free position shot to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead with 11:37 left.
Megan Feeney scored off an
Angie Olla assist increasing the lead to 2-0 with 9:32 remaining.
Megan Maloney's goal with 6:56 left extended the lead to 3-0. Maloney gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead after scoring her second goal on a free position shot with 4:58 remaining.
The Falcons cut the lead to 4-1 with 1:13 remaining in the first period as Murphi Spect scored. With just :03 left in the first period, Brooke Glumack scored a man-up goal for the Falcons, assisted by Kylah Link to cut the Eagles' lead to 4-2.

UWL started the scoring in the second period with Maloney scoring her third goal of the game with 10:37 remaining for a 5-2 advantage.
Evie Brilz helped the Eagles increase their lead to 6-2 with a goal with 9:33 left.
Avery Watzke scored UW-River Falls' lone goal in the second period off a Kinlee Knutson assist to bring the score to 6-3 with 6:09 remaining.
The Eagles scored the last two goals of the half with Olla scoring off an
Emily Wrobbel assist with 2:42 left and Schiltz scored her second goal of the game with :05 remaining in the first half to make it 8-3.
UW-River Falls started the scoring in the second half, with Samantha Hayek scoring off a Glumack assist with 13:40 left in the third period to cut the lead to 8-4.
UWL fired back quickly, with Feeney scoring off a Maloney assist for her second goal of the day. Feeney scored once again, this time off an Olla assist, to give UWL a 10-4 lead.

Glumack's goal cut the lead to 10-5, but Olla's goal off a Schiltz assist gave UWL an 11-5 lead. Specht cut the lead to 11-6 with 6:34 left in the third quarter. Schiltz scored her third goal of the game with 3:28 left in the third period off a free position shot to extend UWL's lead to 12-6.
UW-River Falls cut it to 12-7 with 2:47 remaining off a free position shot by Watzke. With :34 left in the quarter, Hayek's goal on a free position shot made it 12-8. UWL wrapped the scoring up in the third quarter with Maloney notching her fourth goal with :13 remaining, increasing the Eagles lead to 13-8.
The Falcons trailed 13-9 as Glumack scored a man-down goal with 14:34 left in the game. The Eagles regained a five-goal lead with 11:04 remaining on Feeney's fourth goal of the game, this time a man-up goal assisted by Brilz.
Four straight goals by UW-River Falls cut the lead to 14-13. Hayek's goal with 8:55 remaining cut it to 14-10 and :25 later Averie McGill scored a man-up free position shot to make it 14-11. With 3:02 remaining, Glumack scored off Hayek's assist to cut the deficit to 14-12 and Glumack's fifth goal of the game with 1:21 left made it 14-13, but Glumack's shot with :35 remaining was saved by
Stefania Rossi.
UWL finished with 24 shots in the game. Maloney and Feeney led the Eagles with four goals each while Schiltz finished with three. Olla scored twice with two assists. Rossi earned the win, recording nine saves.
Emily Wrobbel led UWL with three ground balls.
UW-River Falls totaled 37 shots. Glumack led the Falcons with five goals and one assist while Hayek scored three goals with one assist. Annelise Rommeck took the loss, registering two saves while playing the first half. Isabel Orton recorded two saves in playing the third and fourth quarter. Knutson and Eleanor Thompson each had a team-high two ground balls.
UWL returns to action Saturday, April 5 at The College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) at 1 p.m.
