Baseball Completed Series Sweep Of UW-Eau Claire With Two Wins

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team completed the four game series sweep with two more wins Saturday afternoon of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent UW-Eau Claire.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • UW-Eau Claire scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning to take the early 1-0. Austin Curti led off the inning by reaching fielding error and then advanced to third when he stole second and advanced on a throwing error. After a strikeout, Drew Salyers grounded out to second which allowed Curti to score. 
  • UWL would tie it at 1 in the third inning as Nate Witte hit a two out single and scored on George Seaman's double to left center.
  • Austin Buck would lead off the top of the fifth inning with a single and advanced to second on Logan Hesselman's single. Carter Vieth then reached on a bunt single to load the bases. After a strikeout, Jack Eustice reached on a fielders choice that brought Buck home to score. Curti would single to right field which brought Hesselman in to score and give the Blugolds a 3-1 lead. 
  • Andrew Rajkovich led off the bottom of the sixth inning with his ninth home run of the season to cut the Eagles deficit to 3-2. 
  • One inning later, UWL would take a 5-3 lead  as they scored three runs on four hits. Calvin Hargrove led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Keegan Fleischman. Chris VandenHeuvel followed with a single to center field which brought in Hargrove to tie the game at 3. After a strikeout, Seaman walked while Rajkovich singled to load the bases. Jack Olver would put the Eagles up 5-3 as he singled through the right side to score both Rajkovich and Seaman. 
  • Eagle starting pitcher Chayce Osterhaus would retire the final six batters in order to seal the win for the Eagles.

    Game Two
  • UW-Eau Claire would again score a run in the first inning as they took an early 1-0 lead. The Blugolds would load the bases with one out on three straight walks. Dustan Green would score on a wild pitch for the first run of the game.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, Olver was hit by a pitch to start the inning and scored on Anthony Vivian's double to tie the game at one. Emiliano Ramos would move Vivian to third with a sacrifice bunt. Mac Born followed that with a single to give the Eagles a 2-1. 
  • UWL would add a run in the third inning as Rajkovich walked, moved to second on a ground out by Olver and came around to score on Vivian's single to center field. 
  • The Eagles extended their lead to 4-1 as VandenHeuvel doubled, advanced to third on a failed pick off attempt and throwing error and came in to score on Witte's ground out. 
  • In the seventh inning, UWL added two more runs on four hits. With one out, Witte, Seaman and Rajkovich each singled. Witte scored on Rajkovich's single. After a fly out for the second out of the inning, Vivian singled to score Seaman and put UWL up 6-1. 
  • The Eagles added the final three runs of the game in the eighth inning. Born recorded his fourth hit of the game, a double, to start the eighth inning and advanced to third on a single by Alec Campbell. Campbell then stole second and Born scored on a throwing error. Witte would walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Seaman put the Eagles up 8-1 with a sacrifice fly that scored Campbell. Witte would score the final run on Rajkovich double.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
   
Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with five runs on eight hits and five walks. 
  • Rajkovich led the Eagles offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, RBI and run scored.
  • Olver finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs while Seaman was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
  • Osterhaus (5-1) earned his first complete game of the season as he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out eight. 
  • UW-Eau Claire finished with three runs on six hits and one walk.
  • Curti (1-for-4, run scored and an RBI) and Eustice (1-for-3, RBI) led the Blugold offense. 
 Game Two
  • UWL finished with three runs on nine hits and four walks in game two. 
  • After walking three batters and giving up a run, UWL starting pitcher Owen Deprez (5-1) settled in as he did not give up another hit while striking out 12 in 7.0 innings. 
  • Born and Vivian each finished a perfect 4-for-4 in game two with Vivian driving in three runs and Born drove in another run. 
  • Rajkovich finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Campbell was 2-for-4.
  • The Blugolds scored one run on two walks and six walks. 
  • Aaron Skrypek (0-1) came on in relief and suffered the loss as he allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out one in 2.0 innings.
