Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team earned a 24-0 victory at Augsburg University (Minn.) Wednesday night at Edor Nelson Field. The Eagles improve to 8-4 and 4-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Auggies fall to 0-6 and 0-5 in the WIAC.
UWL earned its first shutout in school history Wednesday. Lacrosse started as a varsity sport in 2020.
Ava Schiltz tied a school record with nine points.
UWL took a commanding 10-0 lead after the first quarter.
Tori Katzenmeyer scored the game's first goal with 13:58 left in the first quarter on a free position shot.
Megan Maloney scored on an
Evie Brilz assist to make it 2-0 with 12:50 left in the first quarter. Maloney put her second goal through the net with 12:08 left in the first quarter. UWL's
Ava Schiltz recorded a hat trick with the next three goals in the game to make it 6-0. A goal from Katzenmeyer and three more goals from Maloney to give her five for the game, ended the quarter 10-0.
The Eagles struck quickly in the second quarter with a goal from
Angie Olla assisted by Schiltz with 14:20 left in the second quarter. UWL's Katzenmeyer and Olla would score back-to-back goals to give the Eagles a 13-0 lead.
Emily Wrobbel got on the board with a man-up goal followed by a Brilz goal assisted by Schiltz made it 15-0. Schilz scored her fourth goal of the game with
Jadyn Constine scoring with 1:12 left to make it 17-0 at halftime.
UWL's Schiltz put her fifth goal in the net with 8:38 left in the third quarter to put UWL up 18-0.
Kaley Hendrick scored a man-up goal with 3:41 left followed by Maloneys' sixth goal of the game to give UWL a 20-0 lead after three quarters.
Olla become the fourth player to record a hat trick in the game, scoring on a Constine assist with 14:13 left in the fourth quarter. Brilz scored off a
Joslyn Brotemarkle assist with Brotemarkle then scoring to make it 23-0 with 8:09 left in the fourth quarter.
Katie Klicker gave UWL a 24-0 lead from a Constine assist to finish off the scoring.
Megan Maloney had six goals Wednesday.
UWL finished with 44 shots in the game. Maloney led UWL with six goals, Schiltz recorded five goals with Katzenmeyer and Olla each with three. Schiltz had four assists for the Eagles with Wrobbel, Olla and
Sofia Macias with three ground balls in the game. Macias caused a team-leading three turnovers.
Bree Rhodes recorded the win for the Eagles, recording two saves.
Maloney's six goals are tied for third for third in single-game school history while Schiltz' nine points tied the single-game school record.
Megan Feeney scored a school record eight goals and nine points versus Augsburg (Minn.) on March 31, 2023. The four assists by Schiltz on Wednesday are tied for third in single-game school history. Hannah Gronowski holds the school record with five assists set against Edgewood College (Wis.) on April 27, 2022 and versus the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on April 30, 2022.
Augsburg (Minn.) had three shots in the loss. Alyssa Paul, Isabella Kohout, and Veronica Lopez Nash recorded a shot in the contest. Four Auggies had two ground balls with Ashley Kong recording a team-high three caused turnovers. Nicole Schuster took the loss in the net for the Auggies, recording 15 saves.
The 24 goals are second all-time in UWL single-game school history. The Eagles recorded a school record 25 goals versus Augsburg (Minn.) on April 15, 2022 and March 31, 2023.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, April 23 at UW-Eau Claire at 6 p.m.
