UWL Falls to Nationally Ranked Colorado College

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team fell to nationally ranked Colorado College 16-5 Friday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Eagles drop to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Tigers improve to 13-2 and 7-0 in the WIAC. Colorado College is ranked 17th in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Poll.

Colorado College got on the board first with Meilani Molina scoring just 51 seconds into the game. UWL struck back when Evie Brilz scored off a Megan Maloney assist to tie the game 1-1 with 12:43 left in the first period.
 
Molina scored her second goal of the game off a Sofia Mancino assist with 9:31 left in the first period giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Healy Bledsoe extended Colorado College's lead to 3-1 with an unassisted goal.
 
The Eagles cut the lead to 3-2 after Angie Olla scored off a Brilz assist with 4:30 left in the first period. The Tigers increased their lead to 4-2 with a man-up goal by Mancino with just :46 left in the first period.
 
Colorado College outscored UWL, 6-0, in the second quarter to take a 10-2 lead. Grace Bean started the scoring off a Tobin Lonergan assist to make it 5-2. Bean scored again with 10:29 left in the second period to extend the lead to 6-2. Molina's man-up goal, her third goal of the game, was assisted by Meghan Collins. Later in the quarter, Lonergan scored off a Riley Sterling assist to make the score 8-2. With 5:31 left, Mancino scored her second goal of the day increasing the Tigers' lead to 9-2. Mancino scored once again, this time on an assist by Oliv Janerico, to finish the scoring for the first half.
 
The Tigers took an 11-2 lead with 8:23 remaining in the third quarter for an 11-2 lead. It was her third goal of the game.
 
UWL got back on the scoreboard with an Ava Schiltz goal with 4:39 left to cut the deficit to 11-3. Colorado College answered with a Peyton Murphy free position goal to make 12-3 with :50 seconds remaining in the period.
 
In the fourth quarter, Murphy scored once again, this time assisted by Janerico to increase Colorado College's lead to 13-3. With her third goal of the game, Murphy scored off an Ella Roe assist, to make it 14-3. Kelsey Shankle extended the lead to 15-3 off a Janerico assist with 10:25 remaining.
 
UWL's Megan Maloney's goal with 7:25 left in the game cut the lead to 15-4. Murphy scored her fourth goal with 5:06 remaining to increase Colorado College's lead to 16-4. Schiltz finished the scoring with her second goal of the game with 3:38 left to make the final, 16-5. Olla recorded an assist.

UWL had 22 shots in the game. Schiltz led UWL with two goals, while Maloney, Brilz, and Olla each had one goal and one assist. Stefania Rossi suffered the loss, recording eight saves. Olla led UWL with two ground balls.
 
Colorado College finished with 27 shots. Murphy led the Tigers with four goals while Mancino, Bean, and Molina scored three goals. Janerico led the team with three assists while Collins recorded two. Cassidy Schnaufer earned the win, registering seven saves. Molina had a team-high three ground balls.

UWL returns to action Wednesday, April 16 at Augsburg University (Minn.) at 4:30 p.m.
