St. Louis, Mo. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team opened its outdoor season at the Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) Distance Carnival. No team scores were recorded.

The Eagles' Joey Sullivan placed second (8:55.64), Jayden Zywicki fifth (8:58.72) and Mason Brown 13th (9:15.80) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

UWL had three finishers in the top-nine in the 5,000-meter run with Grant Matthai placing third (13:56.79), Aidan Matthai eighth (14:06.00) and Adam Loenser ninth (14:09.47).

Mattahi set a school record with his time in the 5,000-meter run, breaking Ethan Gregg's record of 13:58.36 set in 2023.

Charles Vater finished 17th (29:58.66) in the 10,000-meter run.

UWL returns to action Saturday, April 5 hosting the Ashton May Invitational at noon.
