Eagles Win WIAC Title; Claims 22nd in Last 23 Years; Captures Four Events on Second Day

Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) Saturday afternoon. It is the Eagles league record 48th conference title in program history and 22nd in 23 years.
 
THE BASICS
  • Team Results: UWL won with 217.5 points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 133.5 points. In third place was UW-Whitewater with 89 points while UW-Eau Claire finished fourth (75.5 points), UW-Stevens Point fifth (49 points), UW-Stout sixth (40.5 points), UW-Platteville seventh (35 points) and UW-River Falls eighth (23 points). 
  • Location: Skyward Fieldhouse, Stevens Point, Wis.
  • Up next: Prior to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championship March 14-15, UWL will have individuals compete at the UW-La Crosse Qualifier on March 1st.  
 THE RESULTS

    FIELD EVENTS
  • Triple Jump: The Eagles captured four of the top five spots in the triple jump with Gabe Olsen recording a season best jump of 48-4 to win his first WIAC Championship. Carter Pearson finished second (47-7) while Christian Crumbaker was fourth (47-0 1/4) and Gavin Sargeant fifth (46-4 3/4).
  • High Jump: Nathan Andringa placed third in the high jump with a mark of 6-6 3/4.
  • Weight Throw: Logan Powers was the top Eagle finisher in the weight throw with a toss of 58-7 1/2.
    TRACK EVENTS 
  • 60-meter hurdles – UWL had two of the top seven spots in the finals with Lukas Johnson placing sixth (8.27) and Aaron Poelma seventh (8.35).
  • 60-meter dashSam Blaskowski won his third WIAC championship in the 60-meter dash on Saturday. Blaskowski won with a time of 6.62.
  • 800-meter – The Eagles secured the top two spots, with Cael Schoemann placing first with a season best time of 1:52.15 and Dirk Lueck placing second (1:54.38). The WIAC title is Shoemann's second straight. 
  • 200-meter – UWL had three of the top seven finishers with Evan Maurud placing second (22.21), Luke Vance third (22.26) and Lyndon Hemmrich-Hartman seventh (22.47).
  • 3000-meter – Three of the top eight finishers in the 3000-meter were Eagles with Joey Sullivan finishing fifth (8:30.11) while Owen Clark was seventh (8:33.94) and Christopher Wolfe eighth (8:35.22).
  • 4x400 Relay - The relay team of Chase Doornink, Collin Conzemius, Andrew Hackbarth, and Jacob Hohmann won a WIAC Championship with a time of 3:18.04.
  • Heptathalon- Bryant Yanke finished fourth in the heptathalon with 4,812 points.
