UWL Wins Four Titles at Guthrie Invite; Jarrett Breaks Own NCAA III Record; Plautz Sets School Record

 The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team hosted the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational Saturday in Hetzel Fieldhouse. No team scores were recorded.
 
The Eagles won four individual events on Saturday. Lauren Jarrett broke her own National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III record in the 60-meter dash with a winning time of 7.34. She broke her own national record of 7.37 set earlier in the season at the Pat Healy Classic on January 25.

UWL's Anna Plautz set a school record in winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.63. She breaks the record of 56.67 set by Jenna Halvorson in 2014.
 
In Saturday's field events, Samantha Barrett took home the triple jump crown (38-9) and Araceli De Leo Lopez won the pole vault (12-5 1/4).
 
Other top-three finishes on the track included McKenna Sedlacek second (7.60) and Anika Reiland third (7.71) in the 60-meter dash. Alli Thomas finished second in the 800-meter run (2:14.14) with Madelynn McIntyre second (9:53.51) and Mallory Reiser third (9:53.97) in the 3,000-meter run.
 
The Eagles' 4x400-meter relay of Plautz, Reiland, Andie Otto, and Morgan Jennings took home first (3:52.90).
 
Top-three finishers in the field events were Macie Todd second (5-5) in the high jump with Maddy Habberstad second (11-11 1/4) in the pole vault. Jenna Miller finished third (18-3) in the long jump with Madilyn Vander Sanden second (43-4 1/2) and Jadyn Roden third (40-7 3/4) in the shot put.

Guthrie was head men's track & field coach at UWL from 1988-2006, leading the Eagles to 22 NCAA Division III Championships.  UWL captured 12 indoor and 10 outdoor titles, sweeping the championships in 10 different seasons.  His peers in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named Guthrie the Division III National Coach of the Year eight times and regional coach of the year on 11 different occasions.   

Under Guthrie's direction, UWL won 34 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) titles (16 indoor; 18 outdoor) as he was selected the league's coach of the year 16 times. He was named the WIAC Men's Track & Field All-Time Coach in conjunction with the conference's Centennial Celebration in 2012.  Guthrie was inducted into the inaugural 30-member WIAC Hall of Fame Class in 2012. 

He is a member of the UWL Wall of Fame and USTFCCCA Hall of Fame. 
 
UWL returns to action Friday, February 14 at Minnesota State University with the Mankato Maverick Premier.
