Brown Deer, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team is in second-place after the first day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Wednesday night at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The Eagles have 70 team points with UW-Eau Claire leading with 74. UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater are tied for third (64) with UW-Oshkosh fifth overall (56).
UWL captured the 200 medley relay on Wednesday in a school record time of 1:30.36 with
Jesse Hammes,
Tyler Hartmann,
Jonah Elfers and
Blake Nelson. The relay broke the school record of 1:30.64 set by Alec Carlson, Marley Kaiser, Hans Hover and Jacob Burchfield in 2019.
It marks the Eagles' first league title in the 200 medley relay since 2019 when Carlson, Kaiser, Hover and Burchfield captured the crown.
UWL placed fourth in the 800 freestyle relay (7:00.99) on Wednesday with
Ben Collins,
Connor Cleveland,
Davin Evans and
Caleb Jondle.
Second day action starts Thursday, February 20 with preliminaries at 10 a.m.
