La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's and men's swimming & diving teams are set to compete in the 2025 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, February 19-22. The 53rd edition of the women's championship will be held in conjunction with the 62nd gathering of the men's teams.
UWL and UW-Eau Claire's women's squads have each won a conference-leading 21 championships in program history. UW-Stevens Point owns six league titles. Former conference member UW-Madison secured four first-place finishes.
Competition begins on February 19 at 1:45 p.m., with the preliminaries of the women's three-meter diving. The finals will start at 6:30 p.m., and include a pair of relay events. For competition held February 20 and February 21, preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m., with the finals commencing at 6:30 p.m. The final day on February 22 will feature 10 a.m. preliminaries and a 5:45 p.m. start for the finals.
Medals will be awarded to the top-eight finishers in each of the individual events and the individuals comprising the top-three relay teams.
In 2024, UWL's women's team placed second with 912.50 points while UW-Eau Claire won the conference title with 971.00. UWL had won the last 10 league championships.
UW-Stevens Point placed third (526.50 points) last season with UW-Oshkosh fourth (466.00) and UW-Whitewater fifth (263.00).
The Eagles return five individuals winning an individual event at the WIAC Championships, including
Joanne Banaszak winning the three-meter diving title,
Jordy Hahlen the 100 backstroke and
Abi Schauske the 400 I.M. last season. Hahlen also won the 100 backstroke in 2022 while Schauske took the 400 in 2023.
In 2022,
Maddy Albert-Nelson won the 100 and 200 butterfly while
Autumn Seebach captured the 200 backstroke.
Albert-Nelson and Hahlen were members of UWL's first-place 200 and 400 medley relays in 2022 and 200 medley relay in 2023.
Libby Cleveland and
Brooke Laube were on the first-place 200 freestyle relay last season while Cleveland, Hahlen and
Emily Schoenbrodt were member of the winning 200 medley relay.
The Eagles'
Reilly Eiynck was on the 400 freestyle relay championship team in 2022 and 2023 with
Paige Rundahl joining her in 2023. Rundahl was also on the first-place 200 freestyle relay in 2023.
On the men's side, UWL has won four conference titles in program history and placed second on six different occasions since 2010.
UW-Eau Claire captured the WIAC championship last season with 877.00 points. UW-Stevens Point placed second with 814.50 points followed by UWL (722.50), UW-Whitewater (467.00) and UW-Oshkosh (235.00).
UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point lead the conference with 26 titles each. UWL has won four league crowns. Former programs to win titles include: UW-Platteville (4) and UW-Milwaukee (1).
UWL's
Blake Nelson captured the 50 and 100 freestyle last season. Four simmers return after being a member of first-place WIAC relays.
Connor Cleveland,
Tyler Hartmann and Nelson were on the winning 200 freestyle relay a year ago while Cleveland and Nelson were on the first-place 400 freestyle relay.
In 2023, Nelson and
Jackson Plautz were on UWL's winning 200 freestyle relay while Cleveland and Nelson were members of the first-place 400 freestyle relay.
Steve Mohs is in his sixth season as UWL's head coach in 2024-25. The Eagles' women's squad won its 10th straight WIAC Championship in 2021-22 under Mohs, earning five individual and three relay titles. UWL won the league crown in Mohs' first year as head coach in 2019-20, winning six individual and three relay crowns.
He was named the WIAC Women's Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the 2019-20 and 2021-22 league championships. The 2020-21 WIAC Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 public health threat. UWL placed second at the 2023 and 2024 WIAC Championships.
He served as an assistant swimming coach at Illinois State University in 2018-19. Prior to arriving at Illinois State, Mohs was the associate head swimming coach at the University of South Dakota in 2017-18 as the Coyotes set 19 school records. He has eight years of head coaching experience, including four (2012-16) at Saint Catherine University (Minn.) and four (2008-12) at Morningside College (Iowa).
Jack Englehardt is in his second year as UWL's assistant swimming & diving coach in 2024-25. He came to UWL after serving as head men's swimming coach at Madison (Wis.) West High School from 2019-23, leading the team to a third-place finish at the 2021 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) State Championships. Named the 2020-21 Big Eight Conference Co-Coach of the Year, Englehardt also served as the assistant women's coach at Madison West in 2021-22. He won 15 WIAC titles (four individual; 11 relay) at UW-Stevens Point.
Jeremiah Jackson is in his sixth season as UWL's diving coach in 2024-25. Prior to arriving at UWL, Jackson was the head diving coach at Saint Mary's University (Minn.) from 2005-19. He served as the boys and girls coach at Winona (Minn.) High School for 20 years.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Central Diving Regional is set for February 28-March 1 in Granville, Ohio. The NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships are scheduled for March 19-22 in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
