Women's Basketball Upsets #5 UW-Oshkosh; Milne And Meeker Lead Way On Senior Day

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball celebrated senior day in style as they upset nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon.

UWL defeated #2 UW-Whitewater 62-53 on January 28, 2009, #3 UW-Oshkosh 57-51 on January 6, 2018 and #4 UW-Whitewater 77-66 on January 24, 2024. UWL is 4-11 all-time against teams ranked in the top five.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • After each team scored a jumper, back-to-back UWL three-pointers by Ali Sprangers and Kailee Meeker sparked a 15-5 run to give UWL a 17-7 lead with 2:57 left in the first quarter. A Lauryn Milne lay-up would give UWL a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. 
  • UW-Oshkosh would open the second quarter with a 15-2 run of their own as they took a 25-21 lead with 4:09 left in the half. UWL was limited to two-of-13 (15.38%) shooting from the floor and just five points in the second quarter as they trailed 31-24 at halftime. 
  • The Titans scored the first six points of the second half as they took its largest lead of the game at 37-24 with 7:58 on the clock. But that would be all of the scoring for the Titans in the third quarter as UWL finished the period with a 15-0 run to lead 39-37 entering the fourth quarter. Meeker and Milne each scored five points during the run for the Eagles. 
  • Back-to-back three-pointers by Meeker and Madisyn Kilboten to start the fourth quarter would extend UWL's lead to 45-39 with 8:21 left in regulation. The Titans then scored 10 unanswered points to regain the lead (49-45) with 2:55 left. UWL would get the ball with :35 left and trailing 50-47. After an Eagles timeout with :14 remaining, Milne would tie the game at 50 with a three-pointer with :07 left. Both teams would get a possession in the final :07 but not be able to score. 
  • Malia Nelson would give the Eagles a 52-50 lead while Milne's two free throws extended it to 54-50 with 4:00 remaining. After a Kate Huml layup cut the Titans deficit to two, Grace Knupp hit a jumper followed by a three-pointer to UWL a 59-54 lead (1:51). Leading 59-56, Milne would seal the win for the Eagles on a three-pointer with :31 left and UWO would not score again.

  • As a team, the Eagles finished 23-of-58 (39.7%) from the floor including 10-of-31 (32.3%) from the three-point line. UWL was also eight-of-11 (72.7%) from the free throw line. 
  • Milne led all scorers with 24 points and grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Milne now has 1,123 points in her four year career which sits 10th on the schools all-time scoring list. 
  • Meeker also finished in double figures for the Eagles as she had 11 points to go along with three assists, two rebounds and a steal. 
  • Nelson and and Sprangers each added eight points for the Eagles.
  • UWL finished with a 36-32 advantage on the boards. 
  • UW-Oshkosh shot 20-of-50 (40%) from the floor including four-of-20 (20%) from the three-point line. The Titans were also 12-of-16 (75%) from the free throw line. 
  • Huml led the Titans with 15 points while Sammi Beyer came off the bench to add 14 points.
