Box Score Winona, Minn. - After dropping their first game of the season, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team has now won three in a row including Saturday's 70-59 win over St. Mary's University (Minn.).

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
- After St. Mary's (Minn.) scored the first two points of the game, UWL scored the next eight including a three-pointer by Sydney Torgerson and Katie Waukau to make it 8-2. Jenna Welsch's layup with 1:29 left in the opening period would put the Eagles up 12-8 but a Lindsey Lettnery jumper would make it 12-10 at the end of the first quarter.
- A Brianna Nusbaum three-pointer would give the Cardinals a 13-12 lead early in the second quarter. Ali Sprangers would break a 19-19 tie followed by a Molly Janke three-pointer to put the Eagles up 24-19 with 4:19 left in the first half. Tessa McMahon would cut the Cardinals deficit to 26-24 with 1:53 remaining; however, the Eagles would score seven of the next eight points to lead 33-25 with :22 on the clock. Rylie Sternquist would hit a three-pointer with :03 left to make the halftime score 33-28 in UWL's favor.
- The Eagles would open the third quarter on a 10-3 run to lead 43-31 (5:13). Grace Knupp and Malia Nelson would each score four points to spark the run for the Eagles. With the score 49-40, UWL's Madisyn Kilboten would hit back-to-back three-pointers in the final minute of the third quarter to give the Eagles a 55-42 lead.
- UWL scored five of the first seven points of the final quarter to give the Eagles its largest lead of the game at 60-44 (6:55). The Cardinals responded with a run of their own as they scored 10 of the next 11 points to pull with in 61-54 with 3:44 remaining. Four free throws by Kilboten and a jumper by Janke would put the Eagles back up 67-13 (2:10) and the Cardinals would not get any closer than eight (67-59) the res of the way.

- As a team, the Eagles finished 25-of-64 (39.1%) from the floor including nine-of-26 (34.6%) from the three-point line. UWL was also 11-of-15 (73.3%) from the free throw line.
- Kilboten and Knupp led the Eagles offensively as they finished with 12 points a piece.
- Janke added nine points while Rachel Agg chipped in eight.
- Janke finished with six rebounds while Nelson grabbed five.
- St Mary's shot 21-of-55 (38.2%) from the floor including five-of-20 (25.0%) from the three point line. The Cardinals were also 12-of-16 (75.0%) from the free throw line.
- Sternquist led the Cardinals with a game high 19 points while Ayla Olson came off the bench to score 13 points.
