South Bend, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country team finished second at the Joe Piane University of Notre Dame (Ind.) Friday morning at Burke Golf Course & Cross Country Course.
The Eagles, ranked 16th on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Top-30 Poll, finished with 109 team points.
The University of Windsor (Canada) won the team title with 73 points. The University of St. Thomas (Minn.) was third with 122 points while the University of Chicago (Ill.) was fourth with 127 and Western Ontario University (Canada) fifth with 165.
Purdue University-Fort Wayne (Ind.) placed sixth (185) followed by Oakland University (Mich.) seventh (211), Akron University (Ohio) eighth (226), DePaul University (Ill.) ninth (274) and Calvin College (Mich.) 10th (281). A total of 22 teams competed.
UWL had four runners place in the top-25, including
Lily Higgins finishing 12th with a time of 17:45.2 on the 5,000-meter course. The Eagles'
Lucy Duchac placed 19th (18:02.4),
Brooklyn Luebke 21st (18:05.2) and
Annika Elliott 25th (18:11.7).
Madison Twarling finished 32nd (18:20.1),
Elizabeth Schwartz 34th (18:24.1) and
Becca Immer 35th (18:24.5). The Eagles'
Julia Zalewski was 50th (18:38.8) and
Mallory Reiser 64th (18:44.7).
Mercy Jebitok of Akron (Ohio) won the individual title (16:57.4). A total of 171 runners completed the race.
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 18 at the Augustana College (Ill.) Interregional Invitational at 11:45 a.m.
