Women's Basketball Come From Behind Bid Comes Up Short; Milne Leads Eagles With 20 Points

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team's come from behind bid came up just short as they dropped a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up to UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • UW-Whitewater scored the first four points of the game and took a 7-2 lead on a three-pointer by Kacie Carollo with 5:41 on the clock in the first quarter. UWL would take an 11-10 lead on a three-point play from Lauryn Milne. An Ali Sprangers three-pointer would give UWL a 14-12 lead with 2:00 left but UW-Whitewater would score seven of the final nine points to lead 19-16 at the end of the first quarter. 
  • The Warhawks would extend their lead to 24-17 (8:36) before the Eagles would cut their deficit to 26-22 on a three-pointer by Molly Janke with 6:08 left in the half. A Maggie Trautsch three-pointer would give the Warhawks its largest lead of the first half at 31-22. Milne's jumper would be the final points of the first half as UWL trailed 31-24 at halftime.
  • After two Milne free throws for the Eagles with 8:25 left in the third quarter made it 33-26, the Warhawks scored 10 of the next 16 points to take its largest lead of the game at 43-32 (4:10). UWL would close the third quarter on a 7-1 run to trail 44-39 at the end of the third quarter. 
  • Trailing 46-39 (9:37), UWL got a three-pointer from Emma Jossie followed by back-to-back layups from Grace Knupp and Janke to pull within 49-46 (8:17). The Warhawks would quickly extend their back to nine (55-46) by scoring six straight points. UWL scored eight of the next 10 points to pull within 57-54 (2:59) but a Carollo layup and free throw would put the Warhawks 60-54 (:42). UWL would not get any closer than four (60-56) the rest of the game.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • As a team, the Eagles finished 24-66 (36.4%) from the floor including four-of-17 (23.5%) from the three-point line. UWL was also four-of-five (80%) from the free throw line.
  • Milne led the Eagles offense with 20 points while Kailee Meeker finished with 10 points. 
  • Janke added nine points and eight rebounds off the bench for the eagles while Malia Nelson finished with five points, eight rebounds and five steals.
  • UW-Whitewater shot 21-of-55 (38.2%) from the floor including seven-of-17 from the three-point line. The Warhawks were also 13-of-18 (72.2%) from the free throw line.
  • Carollo led the Warhawks with 31 points and 11 rebounds while Katie Hildebrandt added 10 points and six rebounds.
