UWL Remains Undefeated with Victory over Illinois Wesleyan; Records Third Shutout

River Forest, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Preseason Poll, improved to 4-0 with a 2-0 victory Illinois Wesleyan University afternoon at West Campus Field at Dominican University (Ill.). Illinois Wesleyan drops to 0-4 on the year. 

It is UWL's second straight shutout and third this season. The Eagles earned a 2-0 victory at Dominican (Ill.) on Saturday and opened the season with a 5-0 win over UW-Superior on 

UWL took a 1-0 lead at 19:05 in Sunday's win with a goal from Addie Pauling. The game remained, 1-0, at halftime. The Eagles recorded 15 shots in the first half and had all of the game's five corner kicks in the first 45:00. 

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead on Katelyn Studebaker's goal off an Ellie Behnke assist at 62:21. 

Sophia Anger earned her second straight shutout, registering five saves. 

UWL finished with 32 shots, including 17 on goal. Lindsey Szymanski led the team with five shots with four on goal. Behnke had four shots while Alexis McMahon finished with three shots, all coming on goal. Nine starters recorded a shot for the Eagles. Studebaker and Chelsea Gale each had two shots on goal. UWL finished with 14 corner kicks. 

Illinois Wesleyan had 11 shots in the game with five coming on goal. Bree Cordray led the Titans with four shots. Grace Kiewiet suffered the loss, finishing with 15 saves. Illinois Wesleyan was held to one corner kick in the game. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, September 11 at MSOE (Wis.) at 5 p.m.
