Blaskowski to Compete at USA Olympic Trials Saturday

Sam Blaskowski will compete in the 100-meter dast at US Olympic Trials
La Crosse, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior Sam Blaskowski of Oshkosh (West) will compete at the United States Olympic Trials Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, OR. Blaskowski is one of 36 sprinters that will compete in the 100-meter dash.

Saturday's first round will be at 8:22 p.m. (CST) with 18 individuals advancing to the semifinals on Sunday at 7:48 p.m. (CST). From their, nine individuals will advance to the finals Sunday night at 9:49 p.m. (CST). The top four finishers will then make the USA Olympic Team while finishers five and six will be alternates. 

Blaskowski is the fifth UWL men's track and field athlete to qualify for the US Olympic Trials. He joins Andrew Rock (2004, 400-meter dash), Hans Schmidt (2004, pole vault), Derek Toshner (2004, 400 hurdles) and Terry Strouf (1992, shot put) of Eagle competitors to qualify. Rock is the only one to advance to the Olympics and won a gold medal as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team.

  • Earlier this season, Blaskowski's wind legal time of 10.20 in the 100-meter surpassed the Olympic Trials standard. Blaskowski's time currently sits 14th with the top 36 times that hit the minimum standard making the Olympic Trials.
  • At the conclusion of the 2024 outdoor track and field season, Blaskowski was named the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA DIII Men's Track Athlete of the Year. 
  • Blaskowski was named most Outstanding Performer of the Championships from the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. 
  • Blaskowski scored 22.5 points at the 2024 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championships thanks to victories in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, as well as a leg on the winning 4×100 relay. 
  • Being named the Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year gives Blaskowski a sweep in national awards as he was also honored at the end of the indoor season as he was named Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
  • At the NCAA III Outdoor Championships, Blaskowski won his third 100 meter National Championship with a time of 10.24. Earlier in the outdoor season, Blaskowski set a wind-legal NCAA DIII record of 10.09 in the 100 meters at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open.
  • Also at the Outdoor Championships, Blaskowski won the 200 meter championship with a time of 20.63 which is the third fastest all-time performance in the 200. 
  • Blaskowski ran the third leg of the 4x100 relay which recorded one of the top four times all-time in the relay (39.82).
