Big Third Inning Propels Eagles Past Luther College; Extend Win Streak to Five Games

Mac Born hits grand slam to spark big third inning
Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team extended its win streak to five games with a 14-3 win over Luther College (Iowa) Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Luther scored first in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by Cameron Gault.
  • UWL would respond in their half of the second inning by scoring four runs on two hits and two errors. With one out, Anthony Vivian reached on a fielders choice and advanced to second when Logan Pye was hit by a pitch. Tim Urlaub then singled to load the bases. Jack Moran would draw a walk to score Vivian and Nate Witte reached on a fielders choice to score Pye. Chris VandenHeuvel would then single to score both Moran and Urlaub.
  • Cullen Stamp would lead off the third inning with a solo home run to cut the Norse deficit to 4-2.
  • The Eagles would then erupt for eight runs on three hits and two errors. With one out, Vivian reached by being hit by a pitch and advancing to third on a single by Pye. Urlaub then drove in Vivian by reaching on a fielders choice while Pye advanced to second on a fielding error. Moran would then reach on a fielders choice to load the bases. Back-to-back hit batsmen (Witte and VandenHuevel) would score both Pye and Urlaub. Mac Born then hit a grand slam for his sixth home run of the season. George Seaman capped the scoring in the third inning with his second home run of the season to give UWL a 12-2 lead.
  • Peyton Lindmark drove in a run for Luther in the fifth inning with a single to make it 12-3.
  • With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, VandenHeuvel would hit is sixth home run of the season to make it 13-3.
  • The Eagles would add their final run of the game in sixth inning as Andrew Rajkovich pinch hit for Vivian and walked. Rajkovich advanced to third on a ground out by Cam Dupont and scored on a wild pitch to make it 14-3.
