River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team earned a 14-12 non-conference victory at UW-River Falls Saturday afternoon at Ramer Field. The Eagles improve to 10-5 while the Falcons drop to 10-4.
UWL took a 1-0 lead on
Megan Feeney's goal with 9:33 left in the first quarter on a
Kiersten Pelletier assist. UW-River Falls scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead. Kinlee Knutson, Samantha Hayek and Grace Hannula scored for the Falcons in the first quarter. Â
The Eagles cut it to 4-2 on
Megan Maloney's goal off a
Ava Schiltz' assist with 14:44 remaining in the second quarter. Four consecutive goals from the Falcons gave UW-River Falls a 7-2 advantage. Brooke Glumack had two of the goals. Feeney's goal with 7:27 left cut the deficit to 7-3, but Glumack gave UW-River Falls a 8-3 lead with 5:30 left.
Grace Willmott's goal with :43 remaining on Pelletier's assist cut the lead to 8-4 at halftime.
UWL held UW-River Falls to one goal in the third quarter while scoring three to trail, 9-7, after three. Schiltz, Willmott and Feeney notched goals for the Eagles with Willmott also recording an assist.Â
The Eagles used an 7-3 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Hannula gave UW-River Falls a 10-7 lead 14:30 left before Feeney cut it to 10-8 with 12:48 remaining on another Willmott assist. Knutson extended the Falcons lead to 11-8, but the Eagles went on a 6-0 run.
Emily Wrobbel cut the lead to 11-9 (Schiltz assist) and Willmott scored to make it a one-goal game. Pelletier's goal on a Willmott assist with 7:12 left tied the contest. Feeney provided UWL its first lead of the game at 12-11 with Maloney recording the assist.
Angie Olla extended the lead to 13-11 with 3:14 remaining and Willmott made it 14-11 with 2:06 left. Hayek finished the scoring for UW-River Falls with :08 remaining.
UWL finished with 28 shots. Feeney scored five goals while Willmott finished with four goals and three assists.
Abi Furlano earned the win with 11 saves.
UW-River Falls totaled 26 shots as Hayek and Glumack each scored three goals. Hayek added four assists and Glumack two. Kayden Hersback finished with six saves.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, April 24 hosting UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m. in the regular-season finale.Â
