Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Nationally Ranked UW-Whitewater

Isaiah Katz pitched a complete game to earn win in game one.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team split a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • After two scoreless innings, UWL would break through as they scored two runs on two hits and an error. Tim Urlaub reached on an error and advanced to second on the play. Urlaub would move to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jack Moran. Nate Witte then doubled to score Urlaub. Chris VandenHeuvel then made it 2-0 UWL with a single that scored Witte.
  • UW-Whitewater would get a run back in the top of the fourth inning on Andy Thies solo home run. 
  • The Eagles would get that run back in their half of the fourth inning as George Seaman hit his ninth home run of the season.
  • The score would remain 3-1 until the bottom of the eighth inning when Mac Born walked with two outs. Jack Olver then doubled to put runners on second and third. Anthony Vivian then put UWL up 6-1 with his fifth home run of the season. 
  • UWL starting pitcher Isaiah Katz would allow a lead off walk in the ninth inning but then would retire the next three batters for the final outs of the game.  
    Game Two
  • Like game one, the game entered the third inning scoreless. UW-Whitewater would score four runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. Matt Scolan drove in two runs while Sam Paden and Danny Hopper each drove in one run.
  • The Eagles would get a run back in the bottom half of the third inning. Emiliano Ramos led off with a single and advanced to third on a single by Calvin Hargrove. Moran then hit a sacrifice fly to score Ramos.
  • A home run by Eli Frank in the fifth inning would extend the Warhawks lead to 5-1 while an Adam Cootway home run made it 6-1 in the sixth inning. 
  • In the top of the eighth, UW-Whitewater scored 17 runs on 10 hits. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE
   
Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with six runs on six hits and three walks. 
  • Seaman and Vivian each finished 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.
  • Witte and VandenHeuvel eached finished with a hit and an RBI.
  • Katz (5-3) pitched the one run complete game for the Eagles. Katz allowed six hits and one walk while striking out seven. 
  • Cade Berendt (4-1) suffered the loss for the Warhawks as he allowed six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five.
  • As a team, the Warhawks finished with one run on six hits and one walk. 
  • Thies led the Warhawks offense going 2-for-4 with a home run. 
      Game Two
  • The Eagles finished game two with one run on four hits.
  • Ramos went 1-for-2 with a run scored in game two.
  • Tyler Schmitt (1-2) suffered the loss for the Eagles allowing six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four. 
  • Jack Hagen (6-0) earned the win for UW-Whitewater as he allowed one run on two hits while striking out five.
  • UW-Whitewater finished with 23 runs on 17 hits and nine walks.
  • Hopper led Warhawks offense going 4-for-6 with a home run, a walk and five RBIs. Scolan and Thies added three hits apiece.
