La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team fell, 16-12, to UW-River Falls Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles drop to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons improve to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
UW-River Falls never trailed in Wednesday's game, scoring the first three goals. Holly Eckers scored with 13:37 left in the first quarter off a Kinlee Knutson assist. Bailey O'Donovan made it 2-0 with 13:03 remaining and Emma Heerey extended the lead to 3-0 with 10:59 left. UWL got on the board with 10:39 remaining after
Megan Feeney's unassisted goal, but O'Donovan (9:46) and Grace Hannula (8:49) gave UW-River Falls a 5-1 lead. Heerey and Samantha Hayek recorded assists. Feeney cut it to 5-2 with 8:26 left on a free position shot.Â
Abigale Furlano recorded 15 saves and an assist on Wednesday.
O'Donovan scored her third goal of the game for UW-River Falls to make it 6-2.
Ava Schiltz cut the deficit to 6-3 with 5:01 left on a free position shot. Hannula scored off a Eckers assist for the Falcons with 4:21 remaining and
Grace Willmott scored for the Eagles with 1:40 left to make it 7-4 after the first quarter.Â
Heerey and Brooke Glumack scored for UW-River Falls to start the second quarter to extend the lead to 9-4. Schiltz and Feeney scored for UWL to make it 9-6, but O'Donovan notched her fourth goal of the first half with 3:08 left to give the Falcons a 10-6 halftime advantage.Â
The Falcons outscored the Eagles, 5-1, in the third quarter to take 15-7 lead. Knutson, O'Donovan, Hannula, Glumack and Kylah Link scored for UW-River Falls while Feeney scored on a
Megan Maloney assist for UWL.Â
UWL rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring the first five goals to cut it to 15-12. Willmott scored with 10:26 left on a
Sydney Schmitz assist. Feeney made it 15-9 with 9:52 remaining on another Schmitz assist. Maloney's goal with 7:58 left on a Abigale Furlano assist cut it to 15-10. Feeney (6:39) and Maloney (4:13) scored to make it 15-12. Schmitz recorded her third assist of the quarter on Feeney's goal. O'Donovan finished the scoring, giving UW-River Falls a 16-12 lead with :37 remaining.Â
UWL totaled 26 shots with Feeney scoring six goals on 10 shots. Maloney, Schiltz and Willmott each scored twice. Schmitz had three assists. Furlano recorded seven ground balls and 15 saves.

Grace Willmott finished with two goals and nine draw controls.
UW-River Falls finished with 44 shots. O'Donovan recorded six goals on eight assists. Hannula had three goals. Kayden Hersback recorded eight saves.
UWL returns to action Saturday, April 20 with a non-conference match at UW-River Falls at 1 p.m.Â
