Second Half Shutout Leads to Home Win over UW-Stevens Point; Eleven Players Score

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team remained undefeated in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a 23-4 win over UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the WIAC while the Pointers drop to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

After UW-Stevens Point opened the scoring on a Marissa Van Dyke unassisted goal with 12:30 left in the first quarter, UWL scored three consecutive goals. Ava Schiltz tied it at 1-1 with 12:17 remaining while Britta Nelson gave UWL a 2-1 lead with 10:18 left off a Kiersten Pelletier assist. Grace Willmott made it 3-1 with 8:26 remaining. 

Van Dyke cut it to 3-2, but Megan Feeney, Emily Wrobbel and Nelson scored for UWL in the final 1:57 of the first quarter to make it 6-2. Sydney Schmitz and Willmott recorded assists. 

UWL outscored UW-Stevens Point, 5-2, in the second quarter to take a 11-4 halftime advantage. Schiltz and Megan Maloney each scored a pair of goals while Feeney also notched a goal. 

The Eagles held the Pointers without a goal in the second half, scoring five goals in the third quarter and seven in the fourth. Schiltz had three goals in the third quarter with Wrobbel and Feeney also scoring. In the fourth, Joslyn Brotemarkle scored twice with goals also coming from Schmitz, Jordyn Laurue, Willmott, Brilz and Lydia Spencer.

UWL finished with 41 shots. Schiltz scored six goals with two assists while Feeney finished with three goals and one assist. Wrobbel, Maloney, Nelson, Willmott and Brotemarkle scored twice. Schmitz recorded two assists. Abi Furlano earned the win, finishing with five saves. Stefania Rossi had two saves for the Eagles playing the second half. Anna Jenson had four ground balls.

UW-Stevens Point totaled 15 shots with Van Dyke having two. Ally Schmidli suffered the loss, recording five saves. 

UWL returns to action Friday, April 12 at Southwestern University (Texas) at 4 p.m.
