UWL Earns Win at Southwestern; Remains Undefeated in Conference Play

Georgetown, Texas - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team remained undefeated in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a 15-5 victory at Southwestern University (Texas) Friday night at Varsity Field. The Eagles improve to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the WIAC while the Pirates fall to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

UWL never trailed on Friday, scoring the game's first two goals. Britta Nelson scored with 13:05 left in the first quarter to make it 1-0 on a Megan Feeney assist. Kiersten Pelletier gave UWL a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal with 12:23 remaining. Southwestern (Texas) cut it to 2-1, but UWL scored the final four goals of the quarter to take a 6-2 lead. 

Ava Schiltz had a pair of goals while Emily Wrobbel and Sydney Schmitz also scored. Schiltz' first goal with 6:26 left gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Grace Willmott, Schmitz and Angie Olla recorded assists. 

UWL scored the only goals in the second quarter, outscoring Southwestern (Texas), 4-0. Willmott made it 7-2 with 9:01 left followed by goals from Kara Stay, Schiltz (assist by Schmitz) and Schmitz. The Eagles led, 10-1, at halftime. 

Wrobbel scored her second goal of the game with 14:06 left in the third quarter and Nelson scored with 12:04 remaining to extend the lead to 12-1. Raquel Kurth had a pair of goals for the Pirates in the third quarter, but the Eagles' Schmitz notched her third goal of the game in the quarter. 

Willmott scored with 12:00 left on a Schmitz assist to give UWL a 14-4 lead and Nelson finished the scoring with 5:57 remaining.

UWL totaled 23 shots in the game. Nelson, Schiltz and Schmitz each scored three goals with Schmitz adding three assists. Wrobbel and Willmott scored twice. Abi Furlano earned the victory, finishing with eight saves while playing the first half. Stefani Rossi had two assists in the second half.

Southwestern (Texas) finished with 23 shots with Kurth scoring three times. Emma Bethke suffered the loss with two saves. Alanna Guerrero had two saves.

UWL returns to action Saturday, April 13 facing Colorado College at 4 p.m. in Georgetown.
