Eagles Win 20th National Indoor Championship; Blaskowski, Gregg and Schoemann Win Individual Titles

Virginia Beach, Va. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track and field team captured its 20th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championship Saturday at Virginia Beach Sports Center. 

2024 NCAA III INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP BASICS
  • Team Results - UW-La Crosse won four individual titles on Saturday to help the Eagles compile 74 points. UW-Eau Claire finished second with 52 points while UW-Oshkosh was third with 51 points, UW-Whitewater four (37 points) and John Carroll University (Ohio) fifth (21 points). 
  • Location - Virginia Beach Sports Center, Virginia Beach, Va. (hosted by Norfolk State University (Va.)
  • UWL at NCAA III Championships - UWL has won an NCAA Division III record 20 indoor titles, including the 2023 Championship for a repeat.The Eagles have now won 13 of the last 20 National Championships. UWL earned 12 individual NCAA III All-America honors along with the 4x400 relay team at the 2024 Championships and now have 404 indoor NCAA III All-America honors, the most in the nation.. Head coach Josh Buchholtz has now led UWL to ten NCAA Division III titles, including six indoor (2009, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2023, 2024) and four outdoor (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017).

  • Triple Jump - : William Cady represented the Eagles in the triple jump and finished 12th individually with a mark of 46-4 1/4. 
  • Shot Put - Ben Youngworth earns his first NCAA All-America honor by finishing eighth in the shot put. Youngworth threw a season best 55-3 1/2 in his second throw of the meet.
  • High Jump - Nathan Andringa finishes seventh individually to earn his first NCAA All-America honor in the high jump with a mark of 6-8 1/4.

    Track Events
  • 60-meter dash - Sam Blaskowski defends his National Title in the 60-meter dash as he wins the 2024 title with a time of 6.68. Blaskowski becomes the first Eagle to win back-to-back national titles in the 60-meter dash as he won the title in 2023 with a time of 6.71.
  • Mile - Jayden Zywicki and Aidan Manning each finished in the top ten of the mile. Zywicki picked up his first All-America honor by finishing fifth with a time of 4:07.41 while Manning was ninth with a time of 4:08.99. 
  • 800-meter - Cael Schoemann won the 800-meter run to claim his first individual National Championship. His time of 1:50.56 broke the school record previously held by Sean Royer (1:50.94) set during the 2013 season. Schoemann becomes the first Eagle to win an indoor national title in the 800-meter run. Schoemann won the race by 0.03 seconds by diving across the finish line just ahead of UW-Eau Claire's Sam Verkerke.

  • 200-meter - Blaskowski returned to the track for the 200-meter run and won his second national title of the day as he finished in a time of 20.93. Blaskowski's time breaks his own school record which he had set at 21.13 during the 2023 season. It is Blaskowski's second All-America honor in the 200-meter after finishing second at the 2023 Championships. Also earning NCAA All-America honors was Luke Schroeder who finished fourth in a time of 21.53. This is Schroeder's first NCAA All-America honor in the 200-meter run. 
  • 3000-meter - Like Blaskowski, Ethan Gregg repeats as a National Champion as won the 3,000-meter run for the second consecutive season with a time of 8:07.80. Gregg became the first Eagle in 2023 to win a national title in the 3,000-meter run and has now done it twice. It is Gregg's second All-America honor of the Championships as finished second in the 5,000-meter yesterday.  Also earning NCAA All-America honors in the 3,000-meter run was Grant Matthai who finished eighth with a time of 8:11.40. This is Grant Matthai's second All-America honor as he finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run. Adam Loenser (8:15.99) finished 12th, Aidan Matthai was 16th (8:22.66) and Michael Madoch (8:31.89) was 18th. 
  • 4x400-meter Relay - The 4x400 relay team of Collin Conzemius, Caden Pearce, Addison Hill and Chase Doornink finished second and earn All-America honors with a time of 3:12.39.
