Gregg, Matthai and Matthai Earn All-America Honors; UWL in Fourth Place After Day One

Ethan Greg, Grant Matthai and Aidan Matthai earn All-America honors in 5000-meter run

Virginia Beach, Va. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track and field team is in fourth place after the first day of action at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships Friday at Virginia Beach Sports Center.

2024 NCAA III INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP BASICS

Team Results - UWL is in fourth place with 13 points. Leading the Championships is UW-Oshkosh with 15 points while UW-Whitewater and Emory (Ga.) is tied for second place with 14 points.

UWL at NCAA III Championships - UWL has won an NCAA Division III record 19 indoor titles, including 12 of the last 20.The Eagles are attempting to defend their 2023 National Title where they scored 35.0 points.

Field Events

Weight Throw Final - : Aiden Williams finished 12th overall with a mark of 60-8 3/4. This is Williams third appearance at the Indoor Championships as he finished 16th (56-7 1/4) in 2022 and 10th (60-8 3/4) in 2023.
Long Jump Final - Andrew Hermes represented the Eagles in the long jump and finished 18th with a mark of 21-11 3/4.
Pole Vault Final - Logan Larson and JT Zell each competed in the pole vault with Larson finishing 18th (15-6 1/4) while Zell tied for 19th (15-0 1/4).

Track Events

60-meter dash Preliminaries - Sam Blaskowski qualified for the 60-meter finals with the fastest time (6.66). Blaskowski is attempting to defend his 2023 National Title in the 60-meter dash.
Mile Preliminaries - The Eagles had two individuals qualify for the finals of the mile as Jayden Zywicki qualified second (4:08.46) and Aidan Manning qualified fifth (4:08.68) in the preliminaries.
800-meter Preliminaries - Cael Schoemann qualified for the finals in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.10. Schoemann's time was the fourth fastest time.
200-meter Preliminaries - UWL will have two runners in the 200-meter finals as Blaskowski and Luke Schroeder each qualified. Blaskowski ran 21.37 to run the second fastest time of the day while Schroeder qualified sixth (21.54).
5000-meter Final - Ethan Gregg earned his second NCAA All-America honor in the 5000-meter run as he finished second with a time of 14:00.30. Gregg earned his first All-American honor in 2023 when he finished third. Also scoring points for the Eagles and earnign their first NCAA All-America honor was Grant Matthai and Aidan Matthai. Grant Matthai finished fifth with a time of 14:03.35 while Aidan Matthai was eighth with a time of 14:05.92.
4x400-meter Relay - The 4x400 relay team of Collin Conzemius, Caden Pearce, Addison Hill and Chase Doornink qualified sixth with a time of 3:14.16.
