Women's Track & Field Team Set for NCAA III Championships

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track and field team is set to compete at the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships Friday-Saturday, March 8-9 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  Norfolk State University (Va.) is serving as host of the championships. Events start each day at 9 a.m.

UWL captured the 2023 NCAA III Indoor Championship with 59.5 team points last in Birmingham, Alabama. Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) placed second last year with 54.0 points while Loras College (Iowa) was third with 40.5 and Johns Hopkins University (Md.) fourth with 33.0. 

It marked UWL's second indoor national title in school history after taking first in 2015. The Eagles have placed second at six (1993, 1999, 2001, 2009, 2014, 2022) indoor national championships. UWL has crowned 13 individual or relay champions and 247 NCAA III Indoor All-America honors in school history. 

UWL has entries in 10 individual events for this year's national championships. Eighteen women have qualified for the 2024 NCAA III Championships for the Eagles, including two each in three different field events. The Eagles' Macie Todd (1.69) and Ainsley Hansen (1.68) are entered in the high jump, Araceli De Leo Lopez (3.81) and Madison Habberstad (3.78) in the pole vault and Izzy Carroll (14.25) and Madilyn Vander Sanden (13.97) in the shot put. Carroll has the seventh-highest mark coming into the national championships. 

Samantha Barrett (11.98) is set to compete in the triple jump with Ava Foley (5.62) qualifying in the long jump. Barrett has the eighth-best mark in the triple jump heading into the national championships. UWL's Alexys Scheuerell (3,369 points) will compete in the pentathlon.  Logo
 
On the track, the Eagles' Lauren Jarrett is entered in the 60 (7.49) and 200 (24.83) meter dash. She has the top-time in the 60-meter dash entering the NCAA Division III Championships. Jarrett's school record time of 7.49 was set at the Midwest Elite on February 10, breaking her own record of 7.59 set this year at the DePaul University (Ill.) Blue Demon Alumni Classic and last season's NCAA Division III Championships. 

Maddie Hannan is entered in the 800-meter run (2:10.73) with her time ranking sixth heading into the championships. Hannah Holm (8.75) will compete in the 60-meter hurdles. 

UWL has a pair of relays entered in the NCAA III Championships. The Eagles' distance medley relay of Gwen Hinz, Amber Johnson, Greta Koehler and Hannan are seeded sixth (11:38.83). UWL's Anika Reiland, Morgan Jennings, Anna Plautz and Johnson are entered in the 400-meter relay (3:49.79).
