Box Score Kenosha, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's lacrosse team fell 16-13 at Carthage College (Wis.) Saturday afternoon at Art Keller Field. The Eagles drop to 5-2 on the season while the Firebirds improve to 6-3.
UWL took a 1-0 lead with 13:45 left on a
Megan Feeney goal, but Carthage (Wis.) scored the next four goals. Bailey Koestel, Piper LeFevre, August Claridge and Shannon Heitschmidt each scored for the Firebirds. The Eagles responded with a 4-0 run of their own to take a 5-4 lead after the first quarter.
Grace Willmott scored with 3:42 left to cut it to 4-2.
Ava Schiltz tied the game with goals with 3:26 and 2:13 remaining. Both came on free position shots. Feeney gave UWL a 5-4 lead with :30 remaining.Â

Schiltz extended the lead to 6-4 with 14:48 left in the second quarter. Kyleigh Higgins cut the lead to 6-5 before
Kaley Hendrick gave UWL a 7-5 advantage with 11:00 remaining off
Olivia Ruud's assist. Carthage (Wis.) scored the final two goals of the half by Higgins to tie the game at 7-7. She scored with 5:00 left on a Heitschmidt assist and with 1:13 remaining.Â
Megan Maloney scored the first two goals of the second half to give UWL a 9-7 lead, notching goals with 14:05 remaining in the third quarter and with 9:06 left. Carthage (Wis.) scored the final four goals of the quarter. Bailey Koestel's goal made it 9-8 and Higgins' goal with 3:10 tied it at 9-9. Hannah Kim gave the Firebirds a 10-9 lead with 1:57 remaining and Claridge made it 11-9 with :29 left.Â
Carthage (Wis.) took a 12-9 lead with 14:14 remaining in the fourth quarter on LeFevre's goal. Maloney cut it to 12-10 with 13:57 left, but Claridge's goal with 12:49 left extended the Firebirds' lead to 13-10. Maloney scored on
Kiersten Pelletier's assist with 9:14 remaining to make it 13-11, but Carthage (Wis.) scored the next three goals for a 16-11 advantage. Schiltz (2:19 left) and
Emily Wrobbel (:35) finished the scoring for UWL.Â
UWL finished with 34 shots. Maloney and Schiltz led UWL with four goals each while Feeney finished with two. Abigale Furlano had 10 saves. Pelletier led the Eagles with two caused turnovers while Feeney had a team-high four ground balls.Â
Carthage (Wis.) totaled 43 shots in the game. Higgins led the Firebirds with five goals while Claridge recorded four. Kim and LeFevre each had two. Heitschmidt had a team-high four assists. Emma McDonald had a game-high seven ground balls.Â
UWL returns to action Tuesday, April 2 at the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 7 p.m.
