Box Score Montgomery, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's lacrosse team fell, 15-10, at Aurora University (Ill.) Wednesday night at Spartan Athletic Park. The Eagles drop to 4-1 on the season while the Spartans improve to 3-4.
Aurora (Ill.) took a 1-0 lead on Danielle Corbett's unassisted goal with 11:36 remaining in the first quarter.
Ava Schiltz tied it or UWL with 10:16 left. The teams traded the next two goals with Brianna Peck scoring of Syd Mann's assist for the Spartans to make it 2-1 with 6:54 left, but
Megan Maloney's goal with 4:44 remaining tied the game.
The Spartans took a 4-2 lead on goals from Kenly Axvig (3:48 left) and Kielly Reeve (2:34) before Maloney scored with 1:50 remaining and
Angie Olla with 1:06 left to the game at 4-4.
Aurora (Ill.) outscored UWL, 3-1, in the second quarter to take a 7-5 halftime lead. Axvig had a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner with 7:04 remaining in the second quarter. Schiltz scored UWL's lone goal of the quarter.
UWL trailed, 11-7, after three quarters as
Megan Feeney and Schiltz both tallied goals.
Caley Russell gave Aurora (Ill.) a 12-7 lead with 13:20 left in the fourth quarter and Axvig extended it to 13-7 with 10:28 remaining. Maloney scored a pair of fourth quarter goals for UWL.
UWL finished with 41 shots as Maloney recorded four goals and two assists with a team-high 10 shots. Schiltz tallied three goals and one assist on eight shots and a team-leading six caused turnovers. Olla, Feeney and
Grace Willmott also scored for the Eagles. Abigale Furlano recorded four saves.
Aurora (Ill.) totaled 26 shots as Axvig finished with four goals and one assist. Peck recorded three goals and one assists with Mann finishing with two goals and one assist and Reeve two goals. Meghan Ginty recorded 18 saves for the Spartans.
UWL returns to action Saturday, March 23 at Illinois Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
