Eagles Defeat Lake Forest In Overtime; Schiltz Scores Six Goals Including Game Winner

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse picked up an overtime win over Lake Forest College on Saturday afternoon in their home opener.

Up Next: The Eagles will play their next two games at home as they return to play Edgewood College (Wis.) on Wednesday, March 6 at 5:00 p.m. They will then host the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) on Saturday, March 9 at 1:00 p.m.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • Lake Forest College took an early 2-0 lead as Jenna Doctor scored 0:21 and 0:55 into the game. The Eagles would quickly respond as Megan Feeney scored on an assist from Grace Willmott with 13:20 left in the first period. Ava Schiltz then tied the game up at 2-2 with an unassisted goal (13:13). Ali Graham gave the Foresters a 3-2 lead in the third minute. The Eagles would then score the final four goals of the first period to lead 6-3. Feeney scored two of the goals while Schiltz and Megan Maloney each had one goal. 
  • Both teams would combine to score nine goals in the second period with Lake Forest scoring seven and UWL two. Schiltz scored both of the Eagles goals. Ryleigh Nelson would score three of the Foresters goals while Emma Sharp scored two and Graham and Krissy Kuwahara each had one. Lake Forest College led 10-8 at halftime. 
  • Feeney pulled the Eagles to within 10-9 with 13:09 on the clock before Graham made it 11-9 Foresters (12:30). Three straight Eagle goals by Willmott, Britta Nelson and Feeney would give UWL a 12-11 lead with 5:03 left in the third period. Doctor tied the game up at 12-12 with 4:03 left but Schiltz would make it 13-12 with 2:53 left.
  • Sharp would even the score for the Foresters 2:02 into the fourth quarter before the Eagles scored back-to-back goals. Willmott and Emily Wrobbel scored the two goals for UWL to make it 15-13. Lake Forest got a goal from Eva Russell (5:24) and Doctor to tie it at 15-15 with 2:13 remaining. Wrobbel would give UWL a 16-15 lead on an assist from Joslyn Brotemarkle with :39 remaining; however, Graham would force overtime as she scored with :28 left. 
  • In overtime, Lake Forest would be called for a violation to give UWL a free position attempt. Schiltz would capitalize on the opportunity and score the free position shot. 

FROM THE BOXSCORE
  • Schiltz and Feeney combined to score 11 of the Eagles 17 goals. Schiltz finished with six while Feeney added five goals and an assist.
  • Willmott added two goals and two assists for the Eagles while Wrobbel chipped in two goals and an assist. 
  • Nelson and Maloney each scored a goal for UWL. Brotemarkle recorded two assists while Kiersten Pelletier had one assist.
  • Abi Furlano earned the win in goal for the Eagles as she finished with six saves. 
  • Graham and Doctor each scored four goals for the Foresters. 
  • Sharp added three goals and three assists for Lake Forest College. 
  • Cecilia Adams suffered the loss in goal for Lake Forest College as she finished with one save.
  • The Foresters finished with a 34-23 advantage in shots including a 22-18 edge in shots on goal.
